About the Author
Anna Dewdney was a teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of reading aloud to children. She continually honed her skills as an artist and writer and published her first Llama Llama book in 2005. Her passion for creating extended to home and garden and she lovingly restored an 18th century farmhouse in southern Vermont. She wrote, painted, gardened, and lived there with her partner, Reed, her two daughters, two wirehaired pointing griffons, and one bulldog. Anna passed away in 2016, but her spirit will live on in her books.

Me and my little baby boy enjoy reading it. Loved the rhythms. Pictures are in pretty contrast colors, interesting for young readers and Listeners.

Obviously it depends on how interesting you make the book, but the illustrations, its message and storyline is brilliant! Must buy book for toddlers in the age group of 12- 18 months

The sentence are short and good to read out aloud. The pages are not colourful and many are quite full and dark. The story is about baby llama being put to bed who then faces separation anxiety. The storyline is upto you to interpret. Would have loved the pages to be more attractive and a better storyline. The hardcover is of poor quality and has started fading just after a couple of months.

Lovely book. First I thought it's a long book with little content to hold my daughter's attention. But It became her favourite book from the first time we read it. She loves enacting all the emotions and faces shown in the book. The book quality is also very good.

Read Before You Buy

My 2.5 year old daughter loves the new Llama Llama Netflix show (and so do I), great stories with positive lessons behind them. I highly recommend it over Paw Patrol. With that in mind I purchased this book as it had great reviews and people repeatedly said "What a great bedtime book....". Wow...this is quite possibly the worst bedtime book I could read to my daughter at her age and current understanding of the world. It is equivalent to me watching "IT" right before bed.
Quick plot summary- Mama Llama (ML) puts Llama Llama (LL) to bed and goes down stairs. LL doesn't fall asleep and starts getting scared and crying. Each page flips between LL getting progressively more frightened and scared and ML doing chores down stairs and not hearing him cry. There is a climax to the story where LL is filled with terror that his mama is gone forever and the illustration reflects that fear very well (even if you child didn't understand the words yet). ML finally hears the crying and runs in (also with a look for terror) and soothes LL and gives him love till he calms down and falls asleep. Lesson of the story - "Being alone is scary and if you cry hard enough and long enough your parents will always come give you attention"
First night after reading this book as a bedtime story what do think happened.....
Second night same thing.....
Third night.....book is now hidden in a closet and will become a gift to a family we don't like.
We spent a lot of time and hard work sleep training our daughter and this story almost unraveled all of that. Its been a couple months and she still referred to "crying for Mama...Llama Llama...sleeping..etc" and she now cries for us more in the night (before the book was basically never).
So buy at your own risk but I recommend trying a different book in this series. "Llama Llama and Friends" was our second try and its great.

Story mad child very sad
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2020Verified Purchase
The quality is good and h t ere are lots of pages. However, I can’t understand all the good reviews about the story. the book is about little lama being sad and in distress because mama left and he is left alone to sleep and only at the end mama comes and says all the right things. It made my child very upset and the ending didn’t make it any better. Didn’t get it

Good rhyming rhythm
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 October 2019Verified Purchase
My then 2 year old son LOVED this book. He's 3 now and it's still his favourite. I enjoy reading anything to him that has a good rhyming rhythm, and this one has exactly that. Cute story.. Can totally relate to my child being just as dramatic and impatient! I recommend this book.

Beautiful Bed Time Story with Lovely Illustrations. 5 stars!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 May 2016Verified Purchase
My son was introduced to this book at his play school. He was over the moon when he found that he had his very own book at home. He looks forward to bedtime with his favorite bedtime story. I think it also helped with transitioning him to his own room. We read it every night and he loves to pull the covers up like its illustrated in the book. He also says "sorry mommy" to me at the point the llama mama comes upstairs! There hasn't been a night my son hasn't smiled after reading llama llama and it has been nearly a month since we got it. As a parent I too enjoy reading it and the illustrations are very very cute, as is the rhythm of the story. Highly recommend!

I love this book and my son does too
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 March 2016Verified Purchase
I love this book and my son does too. It has a good message too - that even if a parent isn't right there with their child, they haven't forgotten them, and still love for them. It's just that they might have a thing or two to do on their own! I think it helps teach children that they are loved but not necessarily the center of the universe!
