Milind Soman has held the collective attention of India over 20 years now. I've been following him mainly due to work with Pinkathon and due to his tri-athletic feats, its fascinating to see an actor being a genuine sports person.
As the mentor of India’s biggest fitness movement for women, going beyond Milind's indisputable physicality, Made in India is a deep dive into a young Marathi boy’s journey to becoming a national level swimmer and breast stroke record holder, his transition to modelling and acting and why one needs to keep moving. For anyone “trying” to get fit, this is a fascinating and inspiring read.
Woven around Mumbai, it’s streets, clubs and waters, the book is a sharp piece of writing on the tenacity of perseverance, family bonds and the power of movement. The book reaffirms the requirement to keep pushing, keep evolving and staying real.

About the Author
Roopa Pai is one of India's best-known authors for children. She has written over twenty-five books ranging from picture books to chapter books and fiction to non-fiction, on themes as diverse as fantasy, popular science, maths, history, economics, life skills and philosophy. Many of these are bestsellers, and are enjoyed as much by adults as children.
In his rather full life, supermodel MILIND SOMAN has worn many seemingly disparate hats, but the one common thread through them all has been his commitment to physical fitness. In the last several years, he has become an avid advocate of, and a role model for, a more holistic kind of fitness, one that incorporates mind, body and spirit. Through personal achievements like completing the Ironman and Ultraman challenges after turning fifty, and as the force behind breakthrough ideas like the Pinkathon movement and the Barefoot Marathon, Milind encourages women-and others-to take charge of their health, get back in touch with nature and believe in themselves.

This book gives a lot of insight into the life of Milind Soman and many intricate details of what and how it has shaped him as a human being, the way he is.
His experiences, ideologies and beliefs has been layed down, rationalising his acts over these years.
Anyone reading this book will get to learn a lot about life, how to live it and how to face challenges.
Yes, it does inspire one to conquer mental inhibitions and motivates one to take a journey of exploration.

This book has all the ingredients of a Biopic which should have been made by now. It has supporting parent, interesting upbringing , bullies, glamorous co-workers, an eye-catching love story and even a conniving sports coach. it has a spell on you while you are reading it. You know, Milind is going to finish the marathon and also get his love, but you hang on till you read it in his own words.
As a big fan of serendipity myself, I could relate to life happening to Milind but as always the important message is - Are you prepared for what world is going to throw at you ?
A must read !

Unlike a younger me, who finished the book in one sitting, I took a couple of days to finish this one (considering that I was really tied up on work front). Must say the book kept tempting me to go back to it whenever I found time.
Roopa Pai 's writing is brilliant. I could simply visualise everything as I read along. Loved the way she took to narration through the Milind Soman's Marathon run. It was a refreshing read & one that comes back to haunt you with inspiration each time you think about it.
Totally admire the effort & study Roopa Pai has put in, to get into Milind Soman's skin & write this out. At the same time she has clearly kept her own personal thoughts out to bring out the narrative of Milind Soman. Her writing style still pops up in the book, which I simply loved, because it gave the narration a personal & more down to earth touch (which I think is mirrors Milind Soman).
Loved the pace, the flow & the ease of read that made reading the book truly pleasurable. Above all, it showed a wonderful persona of Milind Soman - beyond the drop dead gorgeous - a man with passion for doing the things he did, his drive, humbleness, his belief & a man of forthright attitude. Truly Roopa has been able to bring out a very different side of his persona. Kudos !!
I strongly recommend the book for its beautiful writing & glimpse into a very down to earth Milind Soman. Crisp, well edited & once again very well written. Grab your copy, go for it....

"...if you stick smilingly to what you believe in, without getting defensive or worrying about whether people will accept you, they eventually will."
From early childhood in the UK to growing up in Shivaji Park, Mumbai..from being a national level swimming champion to becoming a supermodel in the early '90s..from a Bollywood actor to winning the title of Ironman and UltraMan...Its the extraordinary and inspiring journey of Captain Vyom!
Nothing is impossible if you believe in your dreams. Milind Soman is living example of "age is just a number"! I have been following Milind Soman on IG for several years and was always in awe about his fitness. He is an inspiration for many fitness enthusiasts. If you are one of them, and looking for inspiration, this book is for you. However, if you are looking for details about controversies he was involved in and his life in Bollywood, please skip this book.
This book has been written in the form of a flashback memory when Milind ran his first full marathon. Through this book, he has touched every aspect of his life - childhood, school life, modeling, acting, girlfriends, entrepreneurship, quitting everything, running first marathon to becoming an UltraMan. Though the main focus is on him becoming a runner during his 50's and things he learnt on the way.
Pinkathon followers, aspiring runners, fitness enthusiasts, please go for it. This is a quick read of 195 pages and because of Milind's inspiring life you may even read it in one go.

Leave mental and physical disease behind you ! Exercise is important, it helps the body and mind to keep in balance and function as they are meant to. Good body function means that digestion is good, sleep is restful and thoughts are positive 🙂 above all it means the immune system is strong enough to deal with the trillions of viruses you inhale every day. If you haven't started yet, NOW is the time!
