The second book in the ‘Deviant Games’ series.
This book follows directly on from the first. Rae, is trapped in a game where she is tormented by the two Blackwood twins, Jace and Kaiden.and their various demented family members.
We follow her as she tries to out smart them and fails miserably.
Her failure only causes more death and pain.
Eventually, she succumbs to her fate, while hoping in the back of her mind that she will one day find a way to escape the Blackwood families clutches.
Oh boy...what a ending! Please tell me this is NOT where it ends for Rae?
If this is then, she will be condemning her life and the life of another to the influence of this awful family and the cycle will continue... I need MORE!....four stars

Let's play a game...
Words can be powerful things, and those four just granted me a golden ticket straight to hell.
Two beautifully deranged boys have decided I'm their next acquisition.
To make things fair they give me a chance to save myself.
All I have to do is beat them at a few games of their choice.
Truth or dare.
Hide and seek.
Simon says.
Seems simple until you account for the bloodied twist they each have.
They say in all chaos there's calculation.
For my sake I hope that's true because if we’re going to play, I’m playing to win.

Malady is a complete novel. There's no cliffhanger, but it must be read after Crucible.

enthralling but could’ve been longer.

This takes place literally where Crucible left off and it continues as Rae is forced to play these devious games. She remained tough and clever when playing, but in the end, the boys always get what they want. As perverse as it sounds.
As enthralling and fast paced as it was, I just wished it was a bit longer. Felt quite incomplete for me and just could’ve been more.

It is hard to read this author anymore. I gave it a good try though as I thought she might improve. She still uses words wrong (e.g. the cat was a “steeple” in the house now) and still, among other grammatical errors, has no knowledge of the possessive tense. Add to that trite story lines with the same characters with different names in familiar settings and you have the same thing again. I gave up on the Badlands series earlier and now I’m giving up on them all.

Malady is the much anticipated sequel to Crucible. This booked picked up were the last left off. Finally putting an end to the games and declaring a winner. Jace and Kaiden were still themselves making you love them and their twisted minds. Kaiden still the sweetheart in is own way and Jace still is polar opposite. I loved the fight that Raelynn showed in this book. She was not a push over and went down swinging. This book left me wanting more of Raelynn, Kaiden Jace and their family.
