About the Author

F. Isabel Campoy is the author of numerous children's books in the areas of poetry, theatre, stories, biographies, and art. She is a six-time recipient of Junior Guild Award, ALA Notable Book Award, International Latino Children's Book Award, San Francisco Library Award, and the Reading the World Award from the University of San Francisco. CABE (The American Association for Bilingual Education) has established in her name an endowment to provide scholarships for future teachers.

Theresa Howell began her career in publishing as a children'Äôs book editor at Rising Moon, where she helped to establish the bilingual imprint Luna Rising. She is currently the children'Äôs editor at Rio Chico Books for Children, and the author of children'Äôs books with an artistic and cultural focus. She lives in Colorado.

Adriana Sananes is an award-winning actress who performed as a lead with New York's Repertorio Espanol for ten years. Now also a voiceover artist, she narrated the documentary Children of Fate, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and was nominated for an Academy Award, and she has recorded over one hundred audiobooks, including the Spanish version of Pulitzer Prize winner Enrique's Journey, for which she won an Audie.

Rafael Lopez, a four-time recipient of the Pura Belpre Illustrator Medal, grew up in Mexico City where he was immersed in the rich cultural heritage and native color of street life. To build community, Lopez developed a mural style that works like a large scale paint by numbers. He has worked with hundreds of children, families, museums and community members to create murals that often reclaim blighted neighborhoods around the nation.
