I picked this book only because I came across Can briefly in Devil In Winter. I found him honest, confident, proud of his background. And when I read the book I waited for Cam to appear in every page. He never disappointed. Charming, dreamy, loving, caring, bit of devilish which ofcourse added to his charm. A man who lobed to follow his tradition...Cam is too good to be true....wish I meet a Cam 😍😍😍

The around 60 percent of the way. I loved the witty dialogue amongst the Hathaway family. Enjoyed the tension between Cam and Amelia until the latter half of the book went somewhere unexpected with a bit melodramatic Woman In White feel. It did not work. Amelia switched from a strong character desperate to do right by her family in to a naive whiney heroine. A full 180. And the contrived plot mechanism with a former lover was just that contrived and then summarily dismissed. I love Ms Kleypas. She doesn't usually get it so wrong. I loved her characters in Devil in Winter and Sebastian who pops up briefly was a finely honed character in that book, you saw his evolution and came to care about him. This book had too many elements, and making Cam towards the end like some mythical character just turned it in to some Gothic fantasy and not a good one either. Although I am hoping she does much better with a Win and Merripen story.

This is why they give away books or sell very cheaply. I loved it and so much so that I went on to buy all the other books in the series at full
price and read them back to back - because I couldn’t bear not to. I dare say I’ll do the same with her other series.

Beautifully written, with a light humorous touch and lyrical descriptions of feelings. There was one teeny Americanism (in one of the later books), but I’d loved them so much, I took a deep breath and ignored it. No weirdly jarring modern vocabulary and customs - which is unusual in this genre. Buy it, read it - and then buy all the others.

Book one in the Hathaways series remains an enjoyable read and re-read, although for me it’s not as delightfully delectable as the other books in the series.

Cam Rohan was fab, seriously loved him as the leading man/hero in this. Cam is half Roma Gypsy and half Irish so has a somewhat ambiguous position within the world he finds himself in. He is strong, passionate and very competent, as well as being unashamed by his ancestry.

Amelia, I liked but didn’t love, when it came to her and Cam, I didn’t feel the level of emotion or investment I wanted to from her. Nevertheless, Cam and Amelia's relationship is a passionate one.

The rest of the Hathaways were as always a delightful addition to the book.

The hero of this book Cam Rohan - the devastatingly handsome and enigmatic gypsy who runs Sebastian St Vincent's gaming hell - appeared in the 3rd Wallflower book. At the time he definitely caught my eye, so it was with great pleasure that I dived into the Hathaway series. An unconventional family of genteel but impoverished siblings, the Hathaways are lead by Amelia who is trying to hold everything together on her own, with a sickly sister, an alcoholic brother and two younger teenage sisters - when Leo 'accidentally' inherits a title and a stately home (albeit a slightly deladipated one) right next door to Lord Westcliff's estate (that would be Marcus from Wallflowers Book 2!)… Cam is a regular visitor at Westcliff's home, he meets Amelia there when she is invited to dinner. And soon he's popping up all over the place to help out. She doesn't want his help, she's too proud and also is suspicious of him… Unfortunately though, not wanting his kisses is another matter.

I found Mine Till Midnight a very good read and once I started reading could not put the book down. I like the way Lisa Kleypas writes, she writes with care and with deep, meaningful emotions. Amelia has three younger sisters and a brother. They have been living and impoverished life style until her brother comes into an inheritance. Leo (her brother) is grieving from the death of his fiancee and has taken to drinking etc. Amelia is trying to deal with a multitude of problems, one of them being trying to save her brother from ruin. It is this situation that find her in the back streets of London with her friend and escort Merripen. They are about to enter a club that is managed by an extremely wealthy half-gypsy named Cam Rohan. Cam helps her find Leo but there is an attraction between Amelia and Cam. Amelia takes Leo and the rest of her siblings to their inherited estate to start their new life. While she is walking through the country estate she happens to come across Lord Westcliffe (her now new neighbour) and Cam Rohan. The attraction between Cam and Amelia grows and she finds herself turning more and more to Cam for help. Cam is very aware of his half-gypsy state and the irresistable attraction causes huge problems for them but their passion turns into something that neither of them can deny.
This an extremely good and well written book and I will certainly read the next one of the series. Recommended
