About the Author

Salil Desai is an author, columnist and film-maker based in Pune. Murder Milestone (2020) is the fourth book of his much-acclaimed Inspector Saralkar Mystery Series, on the heels of 3 and a Half Murders (2017), The Murder of Sonia Raikkonen (2015) and Killing Ashish Karve (2014). The Inspector Saralkar Mystery series has been optioned by Times Studio Originals (now Junglee Pictures) for adaptation into a web series. Salil’s other popular books are Murder on a Side Street (2011), Lost Libido and Other Gulp Fiction (2012), as well as The Sane Psychopath (2018), the screen rights of which have been picked up by Endemol India recently. No doubt it is a good read. The written part to intrigue the reader has been taken care of pretty well. Book also gets interesting midway. However, Climax is really poor. You can guess the climax very easily and also it is told even before you reach the end. You expect something to unexpectedly change in the end but it doesn’t and book ends. Thriller should have an unexpected turn of events. Like “Silent Patient” which has a climax that nobody can ever guess.

This book is also disappointing because a theory rejected for one person was later accepted again for some other person? It is a matter of common sense how illogical is it.

Although it is a comfortable read, But not really satisfied with the ending. Could have been way better than this.

MURDER MILESTONE : Salil Desai : A Death Row Serial Killer requests a final meeting with Senior Inspector Saralkar, a few days before his scheduled hanging date. The cop walks in to Yerwada Jail, for the meeting relieved that the dangerous criminal he has caught is finally getting his just desserts and wants to wish him a “Happy Hanging”. But walks out completely dazed and pretty hung out himself. Killer Dharmesh Solanki has partly revealed a horrifying dangerous secret which would affect many innocent lives unless it’s stopped in time. What follows is a thrilling nail biter. Senior Inspector Saralkar’s fourth outing also causes him unimaginable personal problems apart from a spate of professional mayhem after mayhem making him lean on his deputy PSI Motkar, the patient but intelligent cop who plays a major role in solving the mystery. Interesting incidents follow leaving behind a trail of bodies and some very unique characters & situations. Like most of Salil’s books, I finished this one too in one sitting, with just a dinner break in between, because in spite of having a good 318 action packed pages, it is an absolutely addictive page turner. And one cannot stop till one reaches the Final Milestone where all is revealed. Very very well written and an Excellent Read. Highly Recommended especially for readers who love a good thrilling murder mystery.
