I have absolutely loved both of Janine’s books. I feel as if she has become a friend telling me stories. The books have been easy to read, and yet hard to put down. My desire to start a new life in France has been given a bigger boost as the book took me through each season, which has its own ups and downs. I am genuinely sad that I have finished, and I hope that there will be another book (featuring the animals and Jean-Claude) very soon. I can’t recommend the book enough!
This book is a pleasure to read , she and Mark did what a lot of us dream of doing, pulled up the stakes from suburban London and sank them into the soft rich soil of northern France. I have read all of her books and enjoyed the progress they have made, if you have thought of moving over the channel and wondered what it could be like then read this book and follow Janine and Mark through a year of their lives, never uneventful Peter Viggers
Have been following Janine on Facebook for a while and finally got around to getting her book. I love France and have lived there in my youth and its my dream to one day live there again. I love reading about her life and all the characters she brought to life. It was such an easy read, full of excitement and joy at the life they are living. Am downloading her next book straight away so I can continue the adventure.
This is the long awaited follow up to Janine's first book My Good Life in France. It certainly didn't disappoint. I have a holiday home very near to the area that Janine writes about, and reading this wonderful book made me extremely homesick during the Covid lockdown. It made me laugh, it made me cry, but most of all it made me feel so lucky to be able to experience also the settings and area she talks about with so much love. thank you Janine. Cant wait for the next book.
I have read both of Janine Marsh’s books- the second one I read recently at the start of lockdown and read it in 2 days! Myself and my husband have had place in the Seven Valleys for 10 years so the descriptions of simple French village life is spot on and also the humorous way she captures the quirky French mannerisms is really brilliant. I have enjoyed immersing myself in their ‘petit’ French world and am eagerly awaiting book number 3- please keep them coming! Anyone who is thinking about buying a home in France or just enjoys a good feel factor read - this book is for you!
If you have a love of France then this author is for you. Her second book recounting stories of hers and her husband’s life in rural France is equally as good as her first. It’s so well written you feel like you are there and know the various occupants of her village not to mention all the animals. It gives a great insight into the French way of life for those that haven’t been able to experience it themselves and something you can relate to for those of us that have been lucky enough to have spent time in France. An easy feel good read but more so in the current climate. It helps us all to dream of the better times to come. You won’t be disappointed!!i for one am already looking forward to book number 3.
Having thoroughly enjoyed Janine's first book I was delighted to discover she had written a sequel. This book gives a well observed, humorous account of day to day life in France and features a number of memorable characters including the bread man and not forgetting the chickens. Like one of the other reviewers I too have a holiday home in Northern France, close to the seven valleys and this book made me really homesick for the laid back lifestyle, the friendliness of people living there and of course the delicious food and wine. Not being able to go there at the moment, this book was the next best thing. An excellent read !
Read Janine’s book during the latest lockdown. Confined to 5k of my house since Christmas this was just the book I needed. Spirits were lifted by wonderfully warm accounts of life in her village in France. I loved the tales of the amazing collection of pets and enjoyed accounts of the delicious dishes of the region. Thanks for a great read. Looking forward to next book.
The Good Life France was an excellent book and this second volume is just as excellent. Janine has a wonderful way of making you feel you are actually there in the bars, the fields, up the ladders, fixing the roof, gathering up the various birdlife and cats. The descriptions of everyday events are wonderful and the book just makes me want to go and visit that part of France. It is a joyous read!
The 2nd instalment of a good life in France is again an enjoyable read and offers just a little more insight into the daily life of rural France through the eyes of someone who fell in love with France and then moved there. A must read for anyone thinking of making a similar move as this book like the first provides more reasons to do just that for oneself. If you are someone like me and my family who travel to France for holidays with a dream to eventually move there then this book further reinforces that such a future is doable. Janine, your storytelling is fantastic. May there be more to come.......well done.
