To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
When I purchased this, it was based on the title New York cupcakes, picture and recipe titles you could view. Upon viewing it, I realized this is totally NOT what is advertised. Nothing even remotely about New York here. This would be called keyword spamming on some sites. The the measurements are metric and not even sure what else. There are grams, cl, and sachets of certain items. Not sure how much a sachet would contain. And what is 6 cl milk? Not only are the measurements not US, the ingredients aren't either. I've never even heard of some of these things. Maisena? Strawberry coulis? 2T custard? cl liquid cream vs double cream vs creme fraiche, fruit in syrup? demi-sel butter? fleur de sel? Tagada? Candied chestnut & chestnut spread? Creme anglaise custard? You get the point. It's pretty useless at this point, unless you know all the ingredients and the measurements, but then you wouldn't be in the US. What makes things even worse is you have to go through a half dozen full color sleazy book ads with full color salacious book covers of people in compromising positions in states of undress. The books are trash with the majority have the story line of "billionaires and pushing the boundaries in sex". Unfortunately society seems to have a group that flocks to books about the filthy rich and their filthy sexual habits. Why did this have to be in a cookbook? My guess is the cookbook is just bait to get you to see the trash they want you to buy. I will never purchase anything from this "author", since I now know it's an advertising scam.
This cookbook is really bizarre, to say the least. It's titled "New York Cupcakes" but gives all of the measurements for the recipes in metric, which is puzzling at best. The recipes are also incredibly small. The mini cupcake recipe is the only one that makes a decent amount (30 mini cupcakes); the rest of the recipes literally only make 6 cupcakes.
The pictures are nice and some of the ideas are great. I'm also fond of the rating system for difficulty and budget (the budget consideration in particular was a nice touch, I felt). Unfortunately, those things are not enough to raise my rating above 2 stars out of 5.
