Mary Pope Osborne's book MAGIC TREE HOUSE #35: NIGHT OF THE NEW MAGICIANS is a great kids' book that entertains and teaches, while getting them interested in reading. The author mixes fantasy with bits and pieces of real history creating memorable stories that also teach a lesson.
Each book in the series takes the young reader along magical adventures with the two leading characters, Jack and Annie, a brother and sister who time travel in a tree house.
In this book, Jack and Annie travel back in time to the 1889 World's Fair in Paris, France where they must learn the secrets from some new magicians, and bring those secrets back to Merlin. The two get to visit the fair and learn who these new magicians are.
The illustrations by Sal Murdocca highlight the story and Osborne writes a note to the reader explaining how she came up with the idea of Paris and the 1889 World's Fair. There's also an additional "Author's Note" section in the back that compares fact and fiction and some activities to do.
The book also includes a preview of the next book #36 of the "Magic Tree House" series--Blizzard Of The Blue Moon.
These books are perfect for those young readers who are beyond picture books but not yet ready to tackle "Harry Potter."
