This book is highly rated and i love the message it conveys. But designs throughout the book are too abstract for 3-5 years old in my opinion.
My 29mo old doesn't really engage with it because it is not realistic and is also hard for me to read as it's too and hard to explain what it means. There may be other books with bigger messages but with simple designs so the kid can at least interact with the images but not in this case as i said they are too abstract.
There is a page about fun and it depicts a circus with elephants wearing roller blades and holding people up - that's pretty sad and doesn't convey the true message of exploiting animals for fun is actually cruel and shouldn't be encouraged - i found this part really sad.
I would recommend this book for over 6 year old kids perhaps those who have started school and are about to begin their life journey and experience disappointment, failure, success etc

Product description
Amazon.com Review
Inspirational yet honest, and always rhythmically rollicking, Oh, the Places You'll Go! is a perfect sendoff for children, 1 to 100, entering any new phase of their lives. Kindergartners, graduate students, newlyweds, newly employeds--all will glean shiny pearls of wisdom about the big, bountiful future. The incomparable Dr. Seuss rejoices in the potential everyone has to fulfill their wildest dreams: "You'll be on your way up! / You'll be seeing great sights! / You'll join the high fliers / who soar to high heights." At the same time, he won't delude the starry-eyed upstart about the pitfalls of life: "You can get all hung up / in a prickle-ly perch. / And your gang will fly on. / You'll be left in a Lurch."
But fear not! Dr. Seuss, with his inimitable illustrations and exhilarating rhymes, is convinced ("98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed") that success is imminent. As long as you remember "to be dexterous and deft. And NEVER mix up your right foot with your left," things should work out. (All ages) --Emilie Coulter

From the Inside Flap
Illus. in full color. "Don't be fooled by the title of this seriocomic ode to success; it's not 'Climb Every Mountain,' kid version. All journeys face perils, whether from indecision, from loneliness, or worst of all, from too much waiting. Seuss' familiar pajama-clad hero is up to the challenge, and his odyssey is captured vividly in busy two-page spreads evoking both the good times (grinning purple elephants, floating golden castles) and the bad (deep blue wells of confusion). Seuss' message is simple but never sappy: life may be a 'Great Balancing Act,' but through it all 'There's fun to be done.'"--(starred) Booklist.

I loved this book .
The way it teaches the great philosophy of life is amazing.
It tells the good, the bad and the ugly in a matter of fact way which is what children need .
To knw the highs and lows of life yet understand its all part of living.... That bad things might happen too and thats ok
I wish someone had told me bout this book when i was growing up
Highly recommended!!

My daughter stares at the book for it's bright colors, when I read it aloud to her before bedtime. She is 7 months old, she doesn't understand what I say (or may be she does, I really do not know)..but she listens to it minutely looking at every page...who knows, she might go places!!

We love Dr.Seuss's books but this one seems too poignant for kids. My 6 yr old wasn't impressed. As an adult it made sense but probably not to a child. Felt more like a book to give for someone's gradation. Keeping it away and will revisit when the child is 10 or so

A book that should be enjoyable for everyone has been spoiled by the babyish design

This book is amazing, poetry, story and illustrations alike. However the publisher has designed it tackily and suitable ONLY for children (as though it's academic material). Dr.Suess books are cool collectibles because of the ingenuity of content, it shouldn't be ruined by branding it ONLY for babies.

this is a must have book for every kid and every adult. If you have not read it when you were a child, then please order this book for your kids and read along with them. I ordered it for my daughter (9yrs). We both read it together. She couldn't get the essense of every line and I had to explain it, but I think I myself learnt a lot.

Ideal gift for a baby you barely know...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 March 2020Verified Purchase
The thing about life is that most of your peers hit the same life events, at the same time. It’s tedious and a minefield when it comes to gift giving. So, I’ve settled on a secular system as far as kids are concerned.
Baby shower, Christening or “just because you care”? Step away from the overpriced “baby’s first tooth” rubbish and don’t concern yourself with keepsake baby booties! Just buy a butt load of these books and keep them in the cupboard. Every time your mate drops a little sproglet, dig one out and write a touching message in the title page. Just make sure you spell their name right…

Perfect book for any age. Fun and inspiring!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 November 2018Verified Purchase
Love this story!! Has a wonderful message for anyone of any age. I read this for the first time when my son received a set of Dr Seuss books as a baby, and we read it as often as I can get away with. I always make sure to emphasize certain parts, both the positive and the negative and discuss them with him (he's 6 years old now). It's incredibly inspiring, teaching you to follow your heart, reach for the stars and not let anything stand in your way. But it also teaches you that things don't always go as planned and you may find yourself lost and not where you want/ expected to be. But it's how you pick yourself up from those situations, which is just as important as when everything goes exactly as you want it to. Can't recommend it more highly.

Unashamed optimism leaps out from almost every page
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 March 2019Verified Purchase
Quite simply, this is a fantastic book, with exclamation marks galore!!! It makes me smile. It inspires a positive mental attitude. It makes me want to grab the nearest child (preferably one of my own), sit them down and impart the words of advice held within. The unashamed optimism leaps out from almost every page as the story follows a little boy in a yellow onesie on his journey through many weird and brightly-coloured places. I like to think of it as the first child-friendly self-help book, full to the brim with positive messages.
However, if like me you are more of a realist than an optimist, you will particularly like the notes of caution and realism peppered amongst the positivity. My favourites: 'Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.' And: 'Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act.'

An Absolute Classic!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2016Verified Purchase
No childhood should be without the wisdom and wit of Dr Seuss, but this book in particular sums up the hopes, dreams and expectations we have for our children.
Whether your child is 6, 16, 26 ..... It says almost everything you would wish to say about their journey through life.
I first came across this at a conference for entrepreneurs, being read from the stage by one of the speakers. It was both inspiring and motivating, but as I listened, I know it was something I wanted to pass on to my family.
I bought the hardback version which tells you something of the degree to which I believe this is an absolute classic.
