Review

Curl up and enjoy this bewitching novel

A lovely, quirky novel about misfits across generations

Razor sharp while packing a heart-wrenchingly powerful emotional punch... Beautifully written, cleverly constructed, at times hilariously funny and ultimately deeply affecting - this should be a smash

Delightful. It's a hugely engaging look at how lives can be remade in the most unexpected of ways

A whimsical and bittersweet story about finding friendship in the most unlikely places

Heartwarming... beautifully sketched characters... life-affirming *****

This inspirational tale of friendship, world records and following dreams is a stunner

Wise, witty and incredibly moving... magical and life-affirming. I was utterly charmed

A big, warm, winning treat of a novel, wholly believable but touched with magic... Sharply observed, deftly constructed and pithily told

A beautifully told story --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Umpteen feelings combined into a single book!
By Ipsa jaiswal on 21 October 2017
“Because the story of your life never starts at the beginning.”
Sitting on my shelf for long, with its bright red cover, the kind that looks engaging without seeming to be ostentatious, the One In a Million Boy, a book by Monica Wood is precisely that. Within its pages is told the story of a woman of age 104 with tales of her life that she supposed were uninteresting till she met the 11 year old boy with an obsession with world records, whose undivided attention unravels more than just her past forgotten memories. Between the lines, it makes one wonder how long and yet short can life be, how impactful and yet meaningless can a life span be, and how insignificant yet significant we all are. It is a book which is an easy page-turner, punctuated with the right amount of facts, a book that will make you smile unknowingly and break your heart.
“...imagining her name in a record book. All those demure round letters in the first name, followed by the stalky surprise of the surname. Ona Vitkus.”
