Are you a flag-loving/respecting American & parent or grandparent? Then, do not hesitate to buy this book for your kids/grandkids (nieces and nephews, too). (I bought one for each of my children, that’s how much we love this book.) And if you hate our country and our flag, then buy this book for your kids anyway. They need to be properly taught about the sacrifices made over and over again for our freedom and how our flag is a symbol of that hard-fought freedom. Despite a very negative review posted here, there is absolutely nothing violent or racist about this book. I love that it also includes how the flag inspired our National Anthem during the War of 1812. And I really LOVE how this book ends. First, with rules for carrying and respecting the flag, as well as when/how to salute it (including standing up straight - not kneeling - when the flag is raised or passes you by), and the very last page provides an explanation for why we pledge allegiance to our flag and includes the actual pledge of allegiance. In case you are wondering, this book is completely a-political. It was published in 1960, the year after our last state (Hawaii) was added, thus making a 50-star flag, and also before cancel culture and the sheer craziness of today’s attacks on one of our country’s greatest symbols. I have provided more images than what are already posted here so you can fall in love with it like we did and buy one or more for your home collection. If I haven’t made a good case for purchasing this book yet, I will leave you with this true story: We have a “free library” box in our town where you can leave a book for others to have for free or take a book someone else has left in it. It usually contains 20-30 books at any given time, and it does get used...a lot, always different books appearing. My oldest read their copy of the “Our Flag” book over and over for months. One day, they asked if we could buy another copy to leave in the library box because, “I think other kids should know about our flag, too.” (Their words.) I happily obliged their request, and it was gone the next time we visited the box. I will be purchasing more in the future as gifts and will donate a few to our school and city libraries. That’s just how important I think it is for every child in America to read this book. Let’s raise up a new generation of patriotic and appreciative individuals. Bring back the deep love for our country.
