Evie has worked for the IPCA (International Paranormal Containment Agency)since she was 8 and they found her in a graveyard meeting her very first vampire. Evie has a unique gift, she can see through any paranormal's glamour. When a new type of Paranormal, a shifter, breaks in to the IPCA, Evie finally has a friend there her own age. Alisha's great but being a mermaid she can't really leave her tank. As Evie grows closer to Lend she begins to wonder if she can ever leave the IPCA, then she finds out they have her listed as a Level 7 Paranormal. But that's not all, her ex boyfriend, Reth, a psycho faery, keeps trying to kidnap her. When something is killing Paranormal's leaving no mark, Evie realizes she may be just like her.

This book started off promisingly, it was very unique with the glamours aspect, and the different types of Superntatural's you don't usually see in these kinds of books, and the unique takes on classics like Mermaids, but I found it very bland in places.

It was fast paced, i'll give it that, but at the same time parts could be very boring and very meh, and I think the prose had a lot to do with that. I wouldn't call it a Teen book, because it times it seems like it's aimed at younger girls.

The character of Evie started to annoy me as well, she was just so clueless and so helpless it got very ridiculous very fast. She was supposed to be the heroine but nothing she ever did was very heroic, she was very much a damsel in distress and herself was very boring. Not to mention the over use of silly phrases, and cliched phrases. She named her taser "Tasey" I mean....seriously? She was supposed to be quirky, but it was just annoying. "oh bleep" that got on my last nerve very fast. She was so juvenile, I just...can't.

Evie is very shallow and very ridiculous, running in to stupid situations with no plan and I just can't connect with that. Or appreciate reading about it. Aside from my issue with the male love interest being called "Lend", their relationship was kind of based on the fact he was hot and he kept holding her hand.

My other issue with the book was that a large part of it was very obvious and very easy to guess. The only reason I finished this book is because leaving books abandoned makes me feel like a fail.

Really funny paranormal YA!

I avoided this book for a long time because of the cover. The cover invoked a certain mood, and I was sure the book was going to be dark, slightly depressing tale with a lovelorn heroine. And I wasn't really in that mood. I think it was the odd expression on the cover girl's face that really turned me off.

However, after going on sale for 99p in the Kindle Christmas sale, I was extremely pleased to find that inside instead was a humourous, paranormal story about Evie, a girl working at the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA). Adopted by the Agency, her main duties involve `tagging' paranormals--werewolves, vampies, the odd hag--as she seems to be the only person with the ability to see through their glamour or disguises. Evie was a great heroine, completely realistic in her self-preservation instincts and fully teenage in her need to break free and be normal.

Encountering the different paranormals was part of the fun. There was so much variety in the characters and what they were, I can't wait to see what others appear as the rest of the series goes on. I love that Evie's best friend was a mermaid and they managed to have a great relationship even though they could only interact through glass. I found Evie's fairie ex, Reth, just the right combination of handsome and creepy. Most of all, I really liked Lend.

Evie and Lend's relationship is really refreshing. It was very natural (in this supernatural world), just spending time together, then slowly falling for each other. No love at first sight, it was just a regular teenage crush that eventually developed. I liked that he could shape shift, but she's the only one who can see through it to his `real face'. It was poetic and sweet.

However, I was frustrated by the fact that many things weren't fully explained by the end of the book. Although I understand there are two more books in the series, I think it ended quite abruptly. Characterisation was also a little light, and while I liked most of the characters, I didn't love any of them. I would've enjoyed a little more development in the rest of the supporting cast. It felt a little unfinished but it did keep me wanting to read more, so will definitely picking up Supernaturally. A solid, fun read.

I remember when this came out and I was really keen to read it but for some reason I forgot all about it until I was looking through my old t-b-r shelf recently, so thought I would give it a go...

I didn't really have any expectations so was quite pleased with it - good story and writing, not a huge amount of world-building outside of the paranormal organisation Evie works for, but some interesting main and secondary characters throughout. There were lots of great paranormal beings that you don't normally get to see and I LOVED Lend, the water boy:) Such a sweetie and he's a pretty cool water-shifter type of thing.

The story is a little bit drawn out with not a lot happening in parts but it still kept my interest and overall I thought the storyline was pretty good. I actually really liked the heroine, despite her being a 16 year old! She was very 'young adult', but in a sweet way, not an incredibly annoying "like, oh my god" sort of way... and the romance between Evie and Lend was a really cute and sweet teen romance.

I think if you read the sample (on kindle at least) and you like that, you should like the book itself, as you get a good feel for our main character in it.

The main issue in this story is resolved at the end so there is no immediate cliff-hanger, but there are quite a lot of loose ends, not least with what will actually happen to Evie now, so if you like this one you will want to read the next at some point...I will definitely pick up the second in the series at some point.

One of My Favourite Paranormal Books EVER!

Evie's an IPCA agent and at the centre of a world-wide treaty. Why? Because she can see through paranormals' glamours. This is unique only to her. And while she's parentless, she does have a rhinestoned-pink Taser called Tasey and a mermaid best friend. However, recently, she's been having weird dreams with two lines of a poem, repeated over and over. When she takes down a shapeshifter unlike anything anyone's seen before, Evie finds out what her dreams mean. They are a prophecy. One about a grey-eyed girl who will kill, kill, kill. And it seems to be all about Evie...
Now, I've read a lot of paranormal books in my time. This one has got to be one of my favourites. It was funny, scary, sad, sweet, action-packed and mysterious. The world was just... wonderful and totally believable. Ok, so it's full of vampires and faeries and werewolves, but it all felt absolutely real to me. As did the characters. Myself, I love characters I can connect with, and from Evie's very first line: bam! Instant connection. And - big bonus here - the supporting cast was just as fantastic.
Evelyn, or Evie as she prefers to be called, was the best. Ever! She was funny, bubbly, vibrant and kick-butt-awesome. While she could be really strong with her job, she was also the most amazing girlie-girl, what with her pink Taser and addiction to soaps. Plus her fixation on the ability to raise one eyebrow was hilarious. And her habit of saying: "Oh, bleep!" A habit I have now picked up and annoy my friends with. And her obsession with the silliest, most mundane things was adorable. A few on the list are lockers, dates and humans. Though she did grow up in complete isolation from human teenagers and normal routines. What more do you expect from a girl?
Lend was wonderful! Adorable, sweet, loving, warm and strong, he was just absolutely loveable. He was a shapeshifter - the one Evie's crushing on, and I could really see why. Plus, they made the cutest couple! And a believable one: none of this love-at-first-sight business here. Their relationship was slow, sweet and oh-so romantic.
Reth, Evie's ex, was a psychotic faerie. Manipulative and kinda creepy, I knew I should have hated him... But there was just something there... I can't quite figure it out... I'll have to wait until the next book to decide about him.
I have to mention Evie's best friend Alisha (Lish) who was a mermaid - who do not have sea-shell bras, thank you very much: they have scales and webbed fingers... so there. Going back on track, while they may be completely different species, the two had a really special bond and it was plain to see that they loved one another. As for Raquel, Evie's boss, I had rather a soft spot for her and her sigh-speak. So Raquel kept things from Evie: doesn't everyone have to hide something? At the end of the day, she loved Evie.
Finally, the `bad guy', who was... unhinged. And hilarious. And lonely. I felt sorry for her, as well as laughing at and with her. I'm not sure if that was how it was meant to be, but that's just what I thought.
And as I read, I just couldn't help smiling, even as I was being terrified out of my mind. There was an aspect to Paranormalcy, something I'm not sure how to describe. It was almost... I don't know, life affirming? That sounds so strange, especially about a paranormal book. But it just made me grateful for everything I have: a family, a home, a last name. The ability to raise one eyebrow. Plus, I will never be able to look at a locker the same way again. They are very, very special.
So, we have action, romance, wonderful characters and an unbeatable plot. I honestly couldn't stop reading. It was just so addictive! Evie was amazing, and again, so addictive. Her voice was wonderful, and it made me want to just read and read and read. So... I did.
I loved this book! It has to be one of the freshest, funniest and most awesome book I've read this year. And it left me with so many questions, wanting so much more. I'm counting the days until Supernaturally is released now!

I don't understand why this series is so popular

This book should have been one I liked. It has a very well constructed urban mythological world where humans make sure to keep dangerous paranormals in order and out of the public eye and through out the book, which didn't take me very long to read, I kept wanting to like it but I just couldn't.

I think the main reason is I did not like this book is the characters. There wasn't a single main character to me that seemed to be believable or even anything but hollow. The relationship between Evelyn and her Fey ex, who's name I can't even remember, seemed unbelievable. It is a stereotypical manipulative relationship but It has no depth and I felt no connection or even reason for Evie to feel so drawn to him and unable to walk away. The author missed out on a big possibility of exploring abusive relationships here.

I also feel like her relationships with the new guy Link, her best friend who's a mermaid, the woman who is like her surrogate mother and all the other people in her small world were just very hollow. And while I understand that Evie is supposed to be a very disconnected character in a lot of pain even her pain felt non-existent. She is thoroughly just a hollow character who I could not connect with at all and everything that happened to her and with her regarding other people felt so forced it was uncomfortable. (Also I have forgotten most of the characters names, a sign that they were not worth remembering)

Worse still is that this book is part of a series, yet I feel not one bit compelled to read the rest of the books. I couldn't care less what happens to any of the characters. So even though this book is not badly written in an obvious way, and even though the story should have been good, it is just not worth reading. I am glad it was only 99p on my kindle and even then that almost feels like a waste of money.
