I own many plant based cookbooks and am maybe a little greedy in always looking out for another, I hasten to add this one was likely the most expensive in my collection! The author lovingly shares her feelings and well written stories surrounding food and how her recipes evolved, but I simply wanted the nuts and bolts of a recipe and thought the additional fiction would provide me with a greater knowledge of my understanding surrounding WFPB.
It was when I was skipping through the book that my realization this book is not for me (or you if you are serious about a plant based diet) when I saw sprinkles on the top of cakes on a couple of occasions. The author in the beginning talks about reading food labels and if you can't pronounce contents, they quite rightly shouldn't be consumed, but what can be more artificial than sprinkles? Also, worth mentioning is that honey is as an ingredient used, so if you are a vegan like myself recipes could be modified.
I truly feel Talia's book would suit someone completely new to a plant based diet and what a perfect intro this book would be. Her style in writing is definitely geared towards younger readers. I truly was disappointed to return this book, but just not what I expected.
