1.0 out of 5 stars Received used book

Looks like I received a used book as all the flaps are worn out and torn in places. Not at all satisfied with my purchase.

…the charming illustrations are indicative of the pages inside, which are a real treat for any age, IMO!

Now and again a true gem comes along, and, for me, this is one ~ simple enough and appealing to the youngest eye, but with scope for the older one too with smaller flaps to negotiate and text on each page, sometimes a question that offers more scope for discussion about what is going on.

The story is set over 14 pages, including the inside covers, in double spread format with durable lift-the-flaps in more areas than you first notice, some smaller than others.

There is a surprising amount that goes on in those wee small hours, with short but informative sentences showing what is happening at the bakery café, on the (sleeper) train + the night time workers, the preparation at the market & the sunrise café + what the wildlife are up to.

The typically quality produced board book, from Usborne, with ‘LIFT-THE-FLAP’ functionality measures around 16.5 cm x 19.5 cm, with rounded corners and a gently angled spine area that makes it easier to pick up.
With more to the cover picture than first meets the eye, the thick cover is a matte finish with a crescent moon cut-out on the front that immediately attracts attention because it looks like it is shining in the starry night sky above the city buildings.
The angular fox in the foreground is picked up in the lamplight and the owl’s eyes are bright in one of the trees.

The pages inside are suitably set in terms of background colour running from dusk to sunrise hues, as the city wakes, and, as day breaks, the birds start to sing as the owl goes to sleep!
