5.0 out of 5 stars Unnerving and surprising.

A little story before we dive into the review, Durjoy Datta was one of the first Authors to introduce me to the books and novels. I remember buying his book named "The boy who loved" it was my first book. So after immersing myself amid the plots and ending, I felt something unique from what I have ever experienced. Leading me to buy most of his books because why not be broke in a satisfying way. I loved most of them and liked just a few. But no matter how many books Durjoy decides to publish he manages to stay at the top off my head every time.

I know I am a little late, a lot late actually, in buying "The Perfect Us". One of the things I like about the author is that he manages to dethrone books from their spot with his new releases. I couldn't get my hands on this book earlier but after I finally did I forgot why I couldn't get my hands on this book. Ironic. Anyways "The Perfect Us" was released in, woah, 2018. It is the most unique and a far cry from most Young Adult Romantic books I have read.

So the book starts by showing us the kind of relation Avantika and Deb have, we'll get to the characters further on. And as the book moves forward we see that the couple starts facing dilemmas. There is just a couple of threads from keeping this couple falling apart. But with Avantikas gloomy enigma there seems little that they can do to save their marriage. Will they be able to overcome everything or will they let everything go against each other? Read more to find out.

So coming to the characters, as we already know the mains are Deb and Avantika. But for their support, we also happen to see Shrey, Deb's best friend. Vernita and Tanmay, Deb's best friend married to Avantika's brother. So as I told you that I have read most of the books of Durjoy, I also want to bring into notice that Deb and Avantika are the oldest characters I have encountered. I have read books from the author where Deb and Avantika fall in love, where they try a corporate job, and things. So in a way, I was already familiar with their personalities. But with Shrey, initially, I thought he was vicious but then with his little not so subtle acts, I tended to like him.

Deb is the most paranoid character you will ever meet in a book. The thing about paranoia is that most people think it's just being scared about everything or questioning everything. Well, they aren't wrong but they aren't right either. The way the author has 'captured the essence' of the personality was just lovely and it felt completely relatable. But in another way, I saw Deb grow from rowdy college student, from authors previous books, to a paranoid lover. I guess time and pages change everyone. While Deb is like that, Avantika is the opposite. She had this goddess/domineering kind of vibe. Which I think was okay since my mind goes by the rule that "opposites attract" but then I would find myself wondering if her character was sometimes taking it too far or what. But who am I to judge.

These two characters affected me deeply throughout the book with their impulsive decisions and exhausting emotions. The plots were so shattering and intriguing that at times I would find myself shedding a few tears. The storyline had sudden twists from the very start of the book carrying it onto till the last. Making this one of the unforeseen books I have read. And if there is one thing I love about books, is their unpredictability. Having this book in my hand meant I was holding curiosity and after a few pages into the book I realized that I wasn't the most patient guy. I would often snoop a few paragraphs just to skip the buildup and get directly to the plot, which is wrong because buildups are there for a reason. I did this more often than not. And by the end of the book, I fought my instincts to be inquisitive and enjoyed a lot. I admit I might get curious over time about certain books or shows, and I might end up asking the internet about my eager reactions to that certain plot. But hey, I am a changed person now and I will let the build-up throw me off the cliff even if it is a small one.

The only way to sum up my emotions about this book is, It's filled with mystery, love, and twists and worth its 5 stars. Thanks for reading this article. I really appreciate it.
