Alka, the main protagonist, is a young, brave, smart, and ambitious only daughter of Seema - a housemaid in a wealthy woman's house. The author has beautifully written this story to show the different phases of Alka's life from a young girl, to a teenager, a college student, a young adult, and finally a married woman. She has undergone so much in life but the best part of it all is that when she has settled down in life with a family, a home, and other luxuries that one gets while living away from the city, she never forgot her roots, how much her mother struggled to raise her and also her mother's friends who treated her more like family. Subbu, Krish, Manasi, Anandi, Nisha, Tulika, Gowramma, and Selvi are just a few of the characters in this endless novel. Some chapters were so gripping, that I did not want to stop reading. One feels so many emotions while reading this book. I could relate to Alka in a few ways. Another masterpiece by Preeti Shenoy. Do read it when you can. It will transport you to a different level.
