ACF Bookens loves a good mystery, a quaint bookshop, and a good cup of coffee. She lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where she takes joy in the mountain views and the quiet back roads. She lives with her son Milo and a beautiful rescue hound who inspired Mayhem in her St. Marin's Cozy Mystery Series.

Aslan, the cat in her books, is based on her departed first cat by that name, who spent an inordinate amount of time digging up her houseplants.

In her books, Bookens addresses issues of justice and writes with intention to disrupt the white supremacy that says that "whiteness" is normal by making purposeful note of every character's ethnicity. She is weary of books that assume everyone is white unless the author says otherwise because being white is not the default of reality.

Her hope is that readers enjoy escaping into her stories and are challenged, just a little, to make themselves better people and the world a better place from the reading.

Book 4 in this book related cosy mystery set in St Marins, USA. Harvey has been in St Marins nearly a year and this time of year there is the harvest parade with floats in the town.

Together with her tight knit band of friends, Mart, her housemate; Daniel, her boyfriend; Cate and Lucas; Stephen and Walter, not guiding the furry four legged part of the gang, Mayhem, Taco and Sasquatch, owned by various members, they put together a float, Harvey wants to win the prestigious blue ribbon to display in the bookshop window for the rest of the year!

Of course, it wouldn't be a cosy mystery without a body, this time Mart, finds the body of the local school coach, dead at the running track. Over time they find out things about the man which doesn't surprise anyone why he was murdered, but the killer is on the loose, and seems to be out to hurt the ones Harvey loves most.

Sheriff Tucker is on the case, but Harvey just can't seem to stop herself from getting involved, again! This time, wil she, and her friends live to tell the tale.

I loved this book, like all the books in the series, and have given it 5 stars, and I can't wait for the next book to be released.

I've been enjoying this series so much, especially with the reading lists, but this book goes one further and looks at the issue of violence against women. For a cosy mystery, I loved how the author tackled the subject and created a beautiful story. It deserves more than 5 stars.

This is the fourth book in the St Marin's series. It is as good as the first three. I like the idea of the main character fulfilling her dreams. In this case, the dream is of owning a book store that really caters to its clients. As in the previous books, this book contains a multitude of references to books and authors with an impressive reading list at the end. The plot is once more really gripping, very much a subject of today and with a little twist at the end.
I'm impatient to read the next 2 books in the series.

I'm delighted to have discovered this book (and the entire series). The author is to be applauded for managing to reflect real people, you know, the sort we know or wish we had around us, while still managing to share some of the realities of the real world. In this book the reality is sexual harassment does exist and can be devastating for those touched by it. I won't detail how the author accomplishes this, just thank them for giving readers enough credit to know most can ponder social issues while otherwise reading what might be an escapist mystery. In the process, there is humor, intriguing characters that seem to grow with each book of the series, complicated family issues, friends who circle around you when needed, and lots of book talk. And, oh, did I mention the Charlie Brown themed parade float and the lovable dogs? There are many things going on with this book and they're alternately fun, unnerving, inspiring, and shows the value of family and friends. Give it a read if you like your cozy mysteries a bit more complex in human needs and emotions than some or, at least, are willing to admit that as nice as it is to lose ourselves in a book, growing from that book is just as valuable.

My FAVORITE thing about ACF Bookens' fictional community in St. Marin's is how reflective it is of the world we live in. It constantly challenges my preconceptions, such as when I find myself momentarily surprised by a female character dancing with her wife. (My assumption is that she would be dancing with her husband, but that's a false assumption.) Bookens' community is diverse and inclusive, a strength of her fictional world, as it is in the real world. Beyond that, her stories are the definition of cozy--the kind that make you want to curl up and get lost for a few hours and that leave you feeling satisfied in the end. If you're new to the series, please start at the beginning so you can get the full effect of how this community grows and changes over time. The St. Marin's books are MUST READS for cozy mystery fans.
