I really love this book. The book is huge and cute with beautiful images, quotations and a bit of sneakpeak into the psychologists. It is fun to read. I carried this book around in the beginning days as a precious little toddler as it is really really cute. The cover is attractive(although, the corners were knocked when i got it). You don't even have to read in order, just turn a random page and there you are! Entirely dissolved into the book! I'm a psychology student and I found many interesting information which weren't taught to me in my class lol. A few times, I wished some concepts were explained indepth. The book is great! But a lot of concepts I expected to read weren't there. It has simplified my various doubts regarding conditioning with charts and all. I love the charts because they make it easy for you to understand. But every concept in here gripping. This book can't be solely relied on if you want to make a very serious study into psychology but it's definitely worthy. It hook you up and gives you a quick insight into various stuff. It's like a textbook but the cute font, the images and attention-grabbing titles gives you a different experience. I think it's a must for every psychology lovers.

I got this book a long time ago but have only recently picked it up and finished it. I have to say, this is a brilliant book for anyone who likes to understand psychology as it gives a great entry-point to the subject.
The book is divided into multiple sections each representing a unique part of psychology and those parts are explained in multiple chapter- each chapter focusing on a topic and the person who pioneered or worked behind the study.
The graphics and the font makes the book easier to grasp and hold our attention.
I totally recommend this book. Also the quality of the hardcover is great.

I love all the Big Ideas book. Started with Philosophy, then onto politics, and now psychology. An excellent way to get a historical perspective on a subject.

The quality(print) of the product is worth the price. However this book does not discuss the concerned topics in details. It gives an introduction or rather an overview regarding different theories on psychology. This is a perfect book if you want to have a general knowledge on psychological theories. A good book for beginners but if you want something detailed I would not suggest this book.

This is one of the best psychology book I have seen in my life. I was so glad to look at it when I purchased it for my school library, that I immediatly ordered one for my personal library as well. I guess I can't say more nice things about it.

Why we think we do what we do.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2020Verified Purchase
I've always been interested in why people behave as they do so this was a good book for me to read. It does what you'd expect and does it well and thoroughly. It's more of a reference book really. I certainly didn't understand everything I read but enough sunk in to make me feel it was worthwhile. My favourite bit was the lecturer who had a guy attend all his lectures encased in a black bag. His students reacted with hostility at first but gradually came to tolerate and then actually like the mysterious intruder. The experiment showed that we tend to react initially with suspicion to people who seem very different from us but once we get to know them, it's fine. I liked that!
Took a while but I'm glad I read it

An excellent reference book for anyone studying 1st year psychology - this book gives succinct information in digestible chunks. I use it as a way to get an overview of a particular theory, psychologist or experiment before doing in-depth study and I think it will work well as a revision tool as well. There's a whole series of these books, if they're all like this one, I'd recommend them for whatever you're studying!

A very interesting and easy to understand introduction to the subject
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 November 2020Verified Purchase
Found this book very interesting and also really well thought out and explained for someone who’s interested in Psychology as a subject or as something they want to study.
It’s theories and concepts are intriguing and easy to understand for a beginner or someone who has only briefly studied the subject as it explains things clearly and precisely.
It’s contents cover everything from its philosophical roots, behaviourism, psychotherapy and cognitive psychology among other subjects.
There is lots of hierarchy type tables along with graphs, pictures and big think piece quotes on the pages that sum up or try to explain the different concepts in sound bites, they stand out to help you try to grasp and remember what you’re reading.
It’s a colourful, well thought out and very interesting book that you can go back to again and again to study and soak up the subjects, theories and concepts within its pages.
Highly recommended!

Easy to read psychology, by DK
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 February 2020Verified Purchase
Approaching this non-fiction title with no former knowledge of theoretical psychology, DK explained complicated concepts incredibly well making it an easy, enjoyable read.
The book acts as a good reference point for people who are either interested in psychology, or are perhaps currently studying the subject at A-Level.
Each topic is outlined with a brief history, the key concepts and a biography of the relevant psychologist.
This is one of many books which are available to purchase in the series.
On a side note, I brought this for my kindle and for a more visual-led book with diagrams and decorative features, the formatting came out quite well.
