What a great story to add to my elementary music classroom! Love the storyline and ways Vicky has incorporated simple rhythms for the children to read and perform through the duration of the book to keep them really engaged. A definite favourite, and looking forward to more from this author.
What a fun way to introduce rhythm and counting in music to young children! I've taught piano to young children and always struggle with getting rhythm and counting across in a way that makes sense and is also interesting. I love it!
This book is an excellent teaching tool for young children learning basic rhythm. The illustration is beautiful and the rhythm is easy to follow. Kids will love it. I am going to add this to my teaching library. Thanks so much!
It’s cute but I thought it was hardback. It’s really thin and flimsy. My toddler might destroy the pages. She will pick it for me to read but it’s not her favorite book. The story was ok but expected it to be lyrical or rhyme. I wish there was more information on how to read music notes since my daughter is only 2. For the price it would have been better in hard back. My daughter likes the feel of sturdy books.
I love that it features a young POC girl as a superhero! Many young POC girls do not get to see themselves represented this way in media. It uses simple rhythms and gives multiple counting systems in the back of the book (great for new teachers or non-musicians who may not have a preferred counting method). I like the way it has pages that can be flipped to if students clap incorrectly so they have to really focus on which rhythm they are supposed to clap. I have not tried it with my students yet but I can't wait to try it with my 1st and 2nd graders once school starts! I think they will love it, especially my young girls!
I love this book for my 2 year-old. I teach piano and I haven't been able to get her interested in rhythm and music but this book seems to do the trick. I definitely recommend this book to any parent that is trying to get their child interested in music and rhythm.
