3.0 out of 5 stars Hmm ...
By Arunima & Subham's on 19 May 2022
Always, underneath the apparent comic humour of Dahl’s novels, there lies a drollery with double-entendres and twisted innuendos. Such is the dark humour of Dahl. Nonetheless, The Twits, with its visual grotesque and ridiculous tirade between an unpleasant couple, are no exception. But Dahl’s parochial outlook is problematic. The outright discriminations are based on puerile medieval thought based upon imposed moralisations, not ethics, which again, brings us to the question: To what extent can a child get conditioned by it? We must remember that books can advocate propaganda (not always an agitprop) and, it can become a manifesto. Without casting the book aside or labelling it as some sort of anti-humanistic work, it can be said, that due to its problematic nature, Dahl’s work becomes open to a discourse, not just of base and stupid revulsion against his prejudices, which we already know of, but rather probing into the subtleties of the text and how could it function as Children’s Literature, which brings us to yet another simple question: What exactly is Children’s Literature?

'The Twits'

The Twits is another excellent book by Roald Dahl. After reading this I think its personally better than James And The Giant Peach. It also looks like its a smaller book page-wise. Meaning there's not as many pages as James And The Giant Peach, but this book makes up for that by it being hilarious.

My favourite character is Mr Twit, he's a well-written character. Also he often insults his wife, Mrs Twit. He also has a long beard (which he hasn't shaved in donkeys years) which he often gets food stuck in.

The best part of the book is when the Monkeys (capital needed because they're an actual speaking character) get all of the Twit's furniture, and super-glue it onto the ceiling, making it look like they were upside down, but they actually weren't, but the Twits didn't realise that.

Overall excellent book for readers who like stories that have twists in.

Highly Recommended.

The twits is about Mrs Twit and Mr Twits two gross poeple. They are horrid and it explains a lot about them in the book. But a sort summary is Mrs Twit and Mr Twit keep 4 monkeys in a cage in there back yard and let gust say the Twits get what they deserve. The illustrations are great there’s a almost a illustration on every page. There’s 112 pages. The books is amazing I’m an year 5 and I love it. I would recommend buying the book. 😀

Bought this for my granddaughter (reluctant reader) as she had read it in school and wanted a copy of her own as it's her favorite book, I didn't take notice of the measurements but she liked the idea of the coloured version, she was made up when it arrived today and saw the size of it and loves the coloured images.
