This is a not-to-be-missed novel if you love excellent characters who are unique and well-rounded, friendship stories, heartwarming family stories, and a main character who, despite her wheelchair bound life, is determined to stay positive, fight for what she thinks is right, and follow her dreams of being a famous pastry chef. I purchased a hardcover and will treasure it in my library.
I loved making the journey from Nashville to Trailerland with Ellie and her mom. And what a journey it was! As a mother of a child with a disability I was smitten with the main character, Ellie, from the beginning. I loved her sense of humor and determination- not to mention the fact she is a fellow foodie. What I wasn’t expecting was to love every other of the Cowan family just as much. This book tackles tough subjects for kids in a way that makes them relatable and even laughable. Representation and inclusion in print is so important. Roll With It should be in every library. It brings much needed awareness to the young disabled community and shows us that with good friends and family life can be pretty sweet.
My 9-year-old loved it! She is a fast reader but this lasted her almost a week.
Ellie lives in Nashville, but then she moves to live with her grandparents. She meets new friends. But then Ellie's mom thinks they should move back to Tennessee. Can Ellie convince her mom it's best to stay?
I'm not telling you about the story too specifically because I don't want to spoil it! :) If you're a kid, you'll love it. If you're a parent, your kid will love it.
Elli is an inspiration to any teenager. It is amazing to have such a strong character who can be someone any young person spire to be like and also be a wheelchair user. I have read this book with my preteen son and we have so enjoyed it so much. It has inspired him to not only be a better friend but also try cooking and putt putt. Thank you Jamie for introducing this character into the world, I look forward to many more adventures with her and her amazing group of friends. Please please write more!
My daughter and her friends are reading it together. It’s a great book to teach a child about other children with different abilities, and how to receive, act, and not act towards anyone with a different ability.
This is a book you will enjoy as much as your children or students will. Cleverly written, funny, and poignant, it's a story that handles beautifully the difficult balance between needing help and wanting freedom. Told from the perspective of an intelligent and somewhat mischievous early teen, Ellie, whose confinement to a wheelchair does not quell her love for baking or her dreams of independence. Readers will relate and will fall in love with this spunky character as her story unfolds.
Delightful book with some much needed representation! The story is incredibly engaging and the characters are well written. I particularly love Bert. You’ll be rooting for Ellie and her crew and a little sad to part with all of them at the end of the book.
I am loving reading this book! As a mother of a child with special needs, the fact that this book exists makes my heart happy. I am so glad to see a character with a disability starring in her own story. Representation matters! Thank you, Jamie Sumner!
