Hi I am Bhor and this book really touched my heart.A big reason for it is I am myself a national level skater.Everything is written so nicely. Also I know that how much difficult it is to start something new and if the first day goes miserble u start hating that thing also I am skating from the age of five and I am eleven now so skating is like a.part of me. Also from my point of view it is about it is also about thet girls are not meant to look good and be full of make up only but can be great at ports also. It ia also about that two girls, one girly and the other a little boyish can be best friends.I wish I could have more than 100 stars to give tko this book
with love

This inspiring, modern graphic novel about a girl who loves to roller skate. The main theme is how things change for the main character between 5th & 6th grade.

The book was good as expected.
But the problem was in the BINDING. The pages started unravelling within 15-20 minutes of start of reading. The book wasn't handled roughly. Rather the opposite. Such incidents can be very disappointing and distressing for a book lover.
Publisher should take note and take care of the problem.

Growing years are full of issues regarding friends, self worth, expectations versus reality, dreams and hero worship. This is one of the best books I have come across for 8 to 12 year olds. Even older children. It is a great graghic novel that touches these issues with rare, relatable simplicity. An amazing read with a breathtaking ending. Must read.

This book is an inspirational story brought to us in the form of a comic. Seen through the eyes of Astrid, a teenager who faces the dilemma of losing her best friend , only to discover roller derby, this book truly a message to all the girls who think they are 'weaker' than boys.

5 Stars for content - beware of book material

The book itself is excellent. Beloved by my 11-year old daughter.
One thing to be careful of - there are two types of book. One is a regular book, which is fine. We bought that book a couple of years ago, but it got lost unfortunately. The other type of book is slightly smaller, cheap glossy paper and it fell apart after a couple of normal uses. That type of book is not worth buying.

Great story, but pages fell all out!

FIVE STARS FOR THE STORY: it’s amazing, uplifting and easy for children to connect to. I recommend it for children who are transitioning in new school, etc. HOWEVER, the book object in itself is absolutely rubbish. All the pages, one by one, have fallen out. Cheap glue, cheap binding, absolutely appalling!!

My daughter's choice
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2020Verified Purchase
I bought the book after my 11-year-old daughter borrowed it from a local library, and then requested her own copy.
She reads it over and over again, and she is quite a reader, and a very demanding one.

My Y6 class love this!!

This was PROPER fun. I’d love to be a roller derby girl! I loved the messages about self belief and friendship in this! Astrid is a great character and I loved the exploration of her emotions in this - we’ve all been there with frustration at something new, sadness and confusion over friendships and growing apart! Another one to add to my graphic novels box in my classroom - I think this will go down a storm in Year 6!

A near perfect graphic novel that packs a brilliant punch
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 March 2016Verified Purchase
This is my daughter (aged 10)'s favourite book. And I think it may be mine too. It's just a brilliant read for any girl, or quirky kid full stop. I actually couldn't put it down myself. It just sings with such humour and realism at the heroine tries her best to be the brave girl (and fails, and gets knocked over, and gets up again). Her rollerderby hero gives her this motto: "faster, braver, fearless", and I find myself absorbing the message of this deeply felt, funny and exciting book all the time.
p.s you don't have to have a clue about roller derby/roller skating, still don't
