5.0 out of 5 stars A most enjoyable sequel!
By K on 23 May 2016
I really quite enjoyed this one, more than The Wrath & the Dawn. It was much more action packed, the magic that had been hinted at in Wrath was explored - although not as thoroughly as I would have liked - and my issues with Shazi in the previous book were non-existent in this one because she is much stronger, there is character development, and while there is still a huge focus on their romance, there are much bigger things at stake than Shazi and Khalid.

The new characters that were introduced, as well as the ones we already know grew gradually through the story, although I must admit I'm still quite curious about Artan. I also have to hand it Ahdieh - she definitely knows how to build a relationship between two people, and in the end I really enjoyed all the couples and their relationships in both books.

The only character I didn't particular enjoy was Tariq. Any mention of him left a bad taste in my mouth, and apparently he doesn't learn from his mistakes, despite his mistakes having some really dire consequences involving people that he claims to care about. Also, his interactions with Shazi made me quite uncomfortable although he did eventually back off.

I'm glad this is a duology and a really enjoyable one at that.
