4.0 out of 5 stars The story is thodi filmy, thodi comedy and that is what makes it a fun ride
By Siddhant Agarwal on 13 July 2020
The Runaway Groom is the story of Arunoday, who races against time to face his fiancé on the day of their marriage and tell her that he cannot go through with the wedding, and then rush to the airport to catch a flight, all in a span of 40 minutes. What unravels next in this not-so-conventional story is a comedy of errors that highlight the cons of the decision our protagonist makes.

The story is thodi filmy, thodi comedy and that is what makes it a fun ride. The plot is simple and engaging which makes it a breezy read. A bite-sized read, it has every element that a story should have to make it enjoyable. Set in the background of a big-fat Indian wedding, the authors have used words to paint a picture of all that is happening in the story. There are some instances that would make you laugh uncontrollably, and some which are a jibe at the customs that we have. I loved the reference to the laddoos. The climax, though a bit expected, was refreshing in the way it was presented. A special mention to the way the emotions of the people are highlighted in the story.

The character of Arunoday is the classic male protagonist yet had a different vibe to him in the way he was sketched. I loved the character of Devika, and I would really love to see what happens after the book closes, maybe with a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice short sweet story
By Shruti on 18 July 2020
🌼"Believe in yourself"
.
☘️Have you ever faced any situation where you have blindly followed the decision of your elder ones by trusting them?? Or you have listened to your heart and took decision?? Both are correct at their place but I think we should first listen to our heart and discuss that with elder ones. Young generation are very clear about what they want or not.
.
🌿In this story, Arunoday who was avoiding getting married because he wanted to make career first but her mother's force left him with no
choice. On the day of his marriage,he realised what he was doing is not what he wanted and feels so he decided to change things in last forty minutes. Read book to more about it.
.
💌The narration is very smooth with easy to understand language. Plot is simple which is set in background of indian weddings. The story will make you happy as well sad also. Laddo part is too hilarious.
.
🍀But the story left me with so many questions. Why didn't Arunoday discussed about his decision with his parents before the D-Day?? Why didn't any of his family gave him support by asking why he is doing that?? And most importantly why Arunoday decided to speak on the d day that to when only 3 hours where left for his marriage??
.
❤️ Overall nice short sweet story.
