Product description

Review

Sweet, endearingly simple illustrations created with pencil, watercolor, and "digital magic" judiciously use white space to focus attention on inseparable Sam and Jump sharing tea, soaping up in the tub, and sitting side-by-side on a tree branch and in an overstuffed chair...Kids with their own favorite toys will identify with this gentle, tender tale of Sam and Jump's special bond.
--Kirkus Reviews

With its simple sentences (set in a typeface that has an understated poignancy), roundheaded characters, and softly colored watercolor-and-ink renderings, Mann s (I Will Never Get a Star on Mrs. Benson s Blackboard) story raises some powerful and provocative questions about loyalty, responsibility, and friendship...both adults and kids should find this ostensibly unassuming story offers significant food for thought.

Kirkus Reviews
The pastel-hued watercolor, pencil, and digital illustrations are absorbing and encapsulate both the summery feel of the beach and Sam s range of emotions. This familiar and cheerfully told saga will resonate with many tots.
Booklist Online
An endearing story about friendship...Young children will enjoy and empathize with Sam and his love for Jump. A great one-on-one read at bedtime.
School Library Journal
This charming tale reassures tots who've loved and lost a stuffed pal by showing them how special friends, both new and old, can be.

About the Author

Jennifer K. Mann used to be an architect, but became a children’s book author and illustrator when she realized she preferred drawing people better than buildings. She is the creator of the picture books Two Speckled Eggs and I Will Never Get a Star on Mrs. Benson’s Blackboard. About the inspiration behind this book, Jennifer says: "When I was young, I left my Raggedy Ann doll at the beach and then spent a long night fretting. In the morning, I found her, soggy and sandy, at the edge of the water. That feeling of losing a beloved toy, the empty space its absence creates, is something I think we all can relate to." Jennifer lives in the USA, on an island near Seattle, with her husband, children, dogs, cats and chickens. Find her online at www.jenniferkmann.com and on Twitter as @Jensredwagon

Jennifer K Mann lives on an island in the Pacific Northwest where she tends chickens, dogs, cats, and her kids and husband, when they aren't tending her. She once was an architect, but turned to picture books full time when after her first book was published. Jennifer draws many of her ideas from her own life experiences, or those of her children--and yes, some of her characters are quite autobiographical.
