After serious losses in his retirement savings, author Ray Flett emigrated to Ecuador to save the lifestyle he worked hard and planned for.
In this conversational read, replete with stories of adventures before and after retirement, the author describes all the steps he took to secure the life he wanted; including building his own adobe hacienda in one of the most beautiful and fertile valleys Ecuador has to offer.
Saving Retirement and Some Adventures details the author's reasons for choosing Ecuador and how the life he's made in his adopted country of residence exceeded all expectations.

A Canadian retires to Ecuador.
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 11 October 2018Verified Purchase
When a Canadian QC does his sums after the GFC and finds the bottom line disappoints, what solution does he come up with? Naturally, he decides to retire to Ecuador, as one does. Raymond Flett details the first year of this resettlement process, which would be invaluable for any other retiree contemplating such a radical move. But the book is also of great interest to the general reader like myself, who can follow the sometimes rocky road the author travels to establish himself in a country whose people he likes but whose language he cannot speak. The legal and practical hurdles to gaining residency, renting an apartment, then buying land and building a house he designed himself are fascinating. Interspersed with this tale are some of Flett's exploits in his younger days. I've a feeling his adventures are not over yet! A recommended memoir and how-to guide in one volume.
