Of course, ''exFAT'' is advance file system of FAT32. And also it detected with Sony LED TV. But the problem is transfer speed. And also i read the file system formats in Seagate website, especially about ''exFAT'' file system, kindly see below:
"exFAT: generally compatible with Mac and Windows. exFAT is not a journaled file system which means it can be more susceptible to data corruption when errors occur or the drive is not disconnected properly from the computer''
This is not user friendly but you have to format it to NTFS to make it as user friendly. Therefore, i leave it up to you, guys! and its your call for going for this new edition of Seagate.
Would recommend some other Tier 1 brands instead of this if the drive is used for backup, you need good and sustained speeds, which this drive does not give
On the positive the product looks good, much nicer than the earlier gen for sure.
I got maximum of 109MB/s for *.zip file
avg 50MB/s for some *.mkv files to exFAT & NTFS format
avg 100MB/s for same *.zip file
maximum 110MB/s for *.mkv file
I am facing heating issue while transferring files & connected standby.
I purchased 2 TB Backup plus Ultra Touch and got available storage of 1.81 TB. You can start using the HDD right of the box but to avail all the benefits and features it provides, you need to run the start_here_run application and follow the steps. Install Toolkit to manage the HDD and also register the product on Seagate website. Additional benefits will be redeemed automatically following steps from start_here_run application using your Serial Number of the HDD.
Advice: Copy and keep the contents of the HDD somewhere in your PC when you connect your drive for the first time (including the hidden Seagate folder Which you can see in my photo as it contains serial no. information and helps in auto detect HDD on Seagate Website) . Will go once you format them. Copy them back.
My Initial setting-up:
*Comes with ex-FAT file format system out of the box which I do not recommend as its more susceptible to data corruption when errors occur or the drive is not disconnected properly from the computer over NTFS file format system. So I formatted HDD to NTFS file format system. NTFS is native to Windows so if you have MAC device i recommend you to install Paragon Driver from Seagate site for smooth operation between MAC OS and Windows.
*HDD Supports 256-bit AES hardware encryption and I encrypted the drive right at the start as you can see in the photo attached.
1) It will take hours on windows 7 to encrypt the drive as it encrypts the free space also, it is a normal process so do not panic. You wont have to wait this long on Windows 8 and above OS.
2) During Encryption process Drive will be shown as full (I have attached a photo) so do not worry. Once process is complete it will show the actual available disk space.
Additional Benefits include(explaining in simple terms):
*2 year Rescue Data recovery services subscription: Seagate recovers the data from your HDD in case your drive fails.
*2 months The Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan subscitio: Yet to redeem it but The Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan includes the Lightroom photo service so you can easily edit, organise, store and share your photos from anywhere.
*1 Year Mylio Subscription: Lets you organize photos and files.
Note: 1 year free Kaspersky Antivirus subscription is mentioned in the product description but i did not find it anywhere.
Overall, This one of the best product available in the market. Go for it without any doubt.
- really small, almost the size of a regular mouse
- silent operation, other hard disks I previously had had
this whirring sound that was slightly audible
- fast copying from/to PC, almost an average of 120MB/s
transfer speed while copying 57GB data to the drive
Disliked coz :
- got only 4.54 TB out of the 5 TB, a bit disappointed to
lose ~500GB of useable memory
- the device might have slight heating issues, mine heated
up quickly in about 2 mins while transferring some 20
GB data to it
- the hard disk case seems to be a bit fragile, may get
damaged upon a fall ( don't test it out , unless u r filthy
rich ). I liked the disk enclosure from Transcend but they
offer HDDs with max capacity of 4TB only

Spoileralarm!
Verwaltung -> Computerverwaltung -> Datenträgerverwaltung
I was running short on backup space and decided to go for another external drive. The Seagate looked like very good value. It came with it's own software, but I was just after the drive, or so I thought.
I installed the drive and software. Initially the software did not install properly, but I was successful second time. I'm glad I persisted. The whole package is brilliant. I have set the backup for continuous backup. It just potters in the background backing up everything I want. Very fast and completely unobtrusive.
An update from September 2020. The software had now been updated several times and has seriously lost its appeal for me. I found my CPU regularly hitting 70 degrees with nothing obvious happening. I tracked the culprit to Seagate Tools. I turned it off and the temperature plummeted to mid 20s. I moved from continuous backup to daily. The daily backup did not happen. I tried to force a manual backup , but the programme just hung. Scratching my head a bit now. Why can't they leave well alone.?
The drives as expected are supplied with everything they need to get them running, in this case, a drive and a USB 3 cable. There is pre-loaded backup software you can use on windows or mac. But these were to be used on Linux so copied the software off in case I feel like using it later, and wiped the drives.
They are quite compact as to be expected with a 2.5 but the case does not add much additional size. One of my qualms was the minuscule activity light on these. Which seems to only be white other drives I have used differentiate USB 3 and 2 with different led colours. As per usual with most 2.5 drives there is no need for external power so long as your ports can maintain the 1.5 ampage need for USB 3, otherwise you will need to get a powered hub.
The drive spins at 5400rpm which people would scoff at in the past but you have to remember with drives being larger now they store more data in a sector of a drive which means they need to spin less especially if you keep them defragged which Windows 10 pretty much does in the background now which means your drive should be reading sequentially anyway.
Testing the drives on CrystalMark they seem to get around 150mb/s read and write sequentially. I compared my results to an internal drive which seemed to get similar results. As I am using mine for backups reading is more important than writing but both results were pleasing. Random read and writes dropped to between 5 and 7mb/s, again as mentioned in the last paragraph, that is the importance of keeping a drive defragged. Stops it needing to spin like a DJ.
I formatted one with NTFS as I need it to be readable by Windows and the other using EXT4 as I do not want anything Windows to touch it well not easily anyway both formats went through with ease, I did not expect any problems but I have had a few drives despise certain formats before so I thought it was worth a mention.
Overall, this is a very nice piece of hardware and I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a large amount of storage at a reasonable cost from a reputable hard drive manufacturer.
