To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This is an original and thoughtful narrative. It makes a seamless transition from present to past to future without seeming artificial. The characters are all given tender attention by the author. I love Ray's coming to the understanding that he had become Mirabelle's parent as he ceased to be her lover. I would have awarded the top rating if the story had a big punch of passion or intensity, the one quality it lacked.
Really cute story. Can definitely tell that its written by a man though...as some of the thoughts of the main girl were a little out of a natural way a woman might think. She could've been a much stronger, more developed person.
This book completely changed my perception of Steve Martin. I guess I was caught up in the 80s when he was the kinda wacky comedian of cyrano de bergerac or whatever other off the wall comedy he was in during the 80s. Who knew he could write. I heard about the movie first, watched it and feel in love with it. As a woman of that age... I really related and couldn't believe that that wacky comedian was able to write a woman so well, to really understand what we really want from men. I decided to read the book and loved it even more. This book was extremely well written, loved it.
... this book was great on so many levels. You saw good use of the English language and the author was able to express himself well. As far as the story... it was excellent. If you saw the movie... you will be in for a surprise... there are a few things that are different which give the book a different dynamic but the same "overall" story is there. Great book... why didnt I give it a 5 Star... cause thats just me!
