Review

Bobby Sachdeva has the rare talent to think of original stories. The stories move you, often question prevalent beliefs and expose shams of our society There is a visual quality in the storytelling that makes the stories accessible --BOBBY BEDI, film producer and director, Kaleidoscope Entertainment Ltd. These stories of inhuman bondage be it of blind faith, lust or exploitation will hopefully shock the reader out of complacency to seek answers to the questions--NIRUPAMA DUTT, poet, journalist and translator. His short stories will give you more than enough fodder for understanding life. What better way to succinctly capture the lengths of moments in words--KRISHIKA LULLA, film producer, Eros International. These thought-provoking stories … make us question many undesirable aspects of everyday life which we mindlessly subscribe to. A very readable, interesting book--MITRA PHUKAN, author, translator and columnist --This text refers to the paperback edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Harsh reality of India.
By Sudeshna on 31 May 2020
Stories of US  highlights the problems in our society with its short story collection.  These stories are written from a common man’s  viewpoint  and somewhere you can relate with it to.

Some of the stories  like Notebandi , Connection,  A letter to the president, RTI,  or even 56 offerings will make you think ,if we faced the  same problem ,or are we privileged not to face them. Of course at the end of each stories, the author have thrown few questions to the reader to judge. (Swayam Vichar Kijiye)

Every story is about 2-3 page long and covers  topic  like  Family relation, parenting,  sexual harassment ,social issues, political issues, superstition, third gender and henceforth. So if you are not looking for a heavy read, or you just began your book reading journey, you can start with this one and I am sure you will like it.

The English is very simple and the stories are fast pace, to the point , loud and clear focusing the topic.

While there are many stories which are my favorite, there are some which didn’t make much of an impact on me like five desi American, love in times of war , the bright old scooter and few more.  What I craved more for is all the problems have been shown to the reader about the society, while  no solution have been given to come out of it or how the protagonist  solved  his problems.  This book can create  great debate on  issues  like Sexual Harassment ,Euthanasia,  how  Internet (social media )hampering our family relationship , scams and few more.

Being a short story lover I enjoyed this 41 mini story collection exposing the  cold society.

4.0 out of 5 stars A mirror to the Indian Society 📚
By HappinessDhaba on 19 March 2020
"Stories of Us" is a collection of 41 stories that directly or indirectly inflict our otherwise beautiful society. We are living in times, where we are recklessly being fed with preposterous propaganda in the name of Truth.

In such times, when the source of uninfluenced information is limited, this book definitely shows some light.

The reason I found this book extremely appealing is because of the approach it follows. Bobby not only identifies common but often overlooked issues prevailing in our society but also helps us in making a better connection with the issue through a relatable story.

Also, with some mind-boggling questions at the end of each story,  Bobby succeeds in creating a significant impact on the minds of the readers.

It's the first book of the author, Bobby Sachdeva and I must say he has done complete justice to the topic he has chosen. Some might argue that the language of the book is too simple, to which I completely agree.  But I believe that that's the beauty of a good author, a good author adopts his/her words according to the need.  In this case, the book is based on the problems pervading the lives of common people. And hence, if any "Social Transformation" is to be bought, the message should be easy to comprehend so that it reaches the multitude and leaves an everlasting impact. And hence, I feel that the easy language has been deliberately chosen.

It's definitely worth reading for the ones interested in reading about the lives of common people.
