ACF Bookens loves a good mystery, a quaint bookshop, and a good cup of coffee. She lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where she takes joy in the mountain views and the quiet back roads. She lives with her son Milo and a beautiful rescue hound who inspired Mayhem in her St. Marin's Cozy Mystery Series.

Aslan, the cat in her books, is based on her departed first cat by that name, who spent an inordinate amount of time digging up her houseplants.

In her books, Bookens addresses issues of justice and writes with intention to disrupt the white supremacy that says that "whiteness" is normal by making purposeful note of every character's ethnicity. She is weary of books that assume everyone is white unless the author says otherwise because being white is not the default of reality.

Her hope is that readers enjoy escaping into her stories and are challenged, just a little, to make themselves better people and the world a better place from the reading.

I really enjoy reading these books, cozy mysteries set in Octonia with main character Paisley, a single mum who salvages buildings and their contents. She's in a relationship with the Sheriff, and they're looking forward to their wedding.

Paisley is hired by 2 newcomers to the town who have bought a house, they want everything cleared out and are happy for Paisley to take what she wants. It's a dream job for her, especially as she can bring her son, Sawyer with her, Mark and Mariah are looking after their nephew and they have a nanny, so it's a playmate for him.

Things start to get strange when some graves are found, then some secret passages are uncovered. There seem to be secrets surrounding the house, and of course, Paisley cannot leave anything like that alone.

These books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.

If you enjoy this series, try the St Marins Cozy Mystery series by the same author, it's just as good.

I really want to give this book a 5 star, but it is SOOO hard to do that when it is difficult to read, not the subject matter, the actual syntax and continuity... I admit being dyslexic I do have times when I need to re read a line or word to be sure I have read it correctly, but when I have to re read something SEVERAL times over because of POOR editing I get upset... We pay a good penny to enjoy our favourite books heck, I usually pre-order the next in the series, so why is it that the editing is so poor? I love these books, but I am so tired of the poor editing. Wrong words in places, spelling errors, punctuation errors... it does make for a less than enjoyable read. PLEASE could our authors take a little time and edit their work, or since they are actually paying for the service get what they are paying for... Now for the story, it is a good read and a well thought out way to tackle another serious subject. as a survivor of teen sexual assault, it did bring up past memories that as hard as I have worked to overcome, still resurfaced during this read. I look forward to the next read in the series January 2023...
