I read this story to my class of 3-5 year old students, on my tablet, after we read a version of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." Some of the humor was a little sophisticated for the three year olds, but once the play started, the students got into the story and found it funny. I think if we hadn't read "Goldilocks..." already, they would not have laughed as much! They were able to say how "Tackylocks," was different from the other version of "Goldilocks..." So this is within their comprehension level as a read aloud. I have a paperback copy in the classroom library, and the kids wanted me to read it again during independent reading time.
However, I do not recommend the e-book version of the story. The layout of the text is not in sync with the pictures. It's not as bad if you orient your tablet upright versus horizontally. The e-book had the pages as they are in the paperback with text, but also has the text in the upper and lower margins. It is confusing and slowed the read aloud process. I ended up just zooming on the pages and reading the text that way.

Tacky goes for an Academy award!

I adore books about Tacky the irrepressible penguin!! He is again hard at work, doing his thing to get the other more "staid" penguins to stretch themselves and have a little fun in the process! This time he tackles the beloved classic of The Three Bears, giving it his unique bit of a twist. My 5 year old grand-daughter loves these books also and this one is no exception. If you are one of the rare people who don't know Tacky yet, give this book a try. I'm sure you will also be hooked!!!

My niece is a teacher in Arkansas. Her 1st grade class is sorely lacking in enjoyable books for afternoon reading. I purchased every 'Tacky' title available on Amazon and sent them down to her. I figured penguins in Arkansas would be a novelty for the kids, and they LOVED it!!
The 1st graders love Tacky and his crazy adventures; he's always faced w a perplexing problem, but seems to make the right (sometimes tough) choice to solve it. Good lessons for children!
