It was fun reading about Kyla getting behind the mystery of who would use technology to ruin her life. It was also fun deciphering Ms. Wang's numerous and morphed representations of famous tech apps, programs, or gadgets although it did take me a while to understand and I thought the book might have benefited from an explanatory foreword about when it took place as well as the creative language and colloquialisms used. Still, for me at least, having recently lived with a teenage daughter the voice of the character couldn't have been clearer or more authentic.
There was a surprising amount of political angst in this book about feminism, privacy, and technology that also made it an intriguing book to read. But what made the book truly enjoyable was its take on the complications of relationships when you really know what's behind the curtain of the people who you may see and talk to every single day -- including yourself, when you look in the mirror. I highly recommend this as a great book for young people especially, but I'm very glad I got to read it too.
The plot itself is as old as time - jealousy, power struggles, mind games. The main character is right - you probably WON'T like her or her friends! But you will feel for her & what she's going through, and root for her to be vindicated.
