Thank God for small mercies.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 February 2020
It was a copy of the original story. So lovely to read this literature. I have every respect for the meaning and history of what occurred in that era. Sample the writing for yourself.

A Little volume With A Loud VoiceReviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2012
This book is a gem. It is beautifully illustrated; no other book illustrations have ever had as much impact on me as these. At first glance one wonders wether a cartoon format is appropriate for the subject matter but just as instantly, doubt is completely forgotten as the aptness of the pictures becomes clear. It's the barbed wire that gets me: its benign beauty on the page seems to emphasise its viciousness. And then there's the poetry. Clear, sparse and gob-smackingly poignant. It hides its craft very well: you think 'with a bit of effort I could have come up with that' No you couldn't. It's the work of a consumate poet. Each page contains a little packet of condensed meaning whose economy of language is both beautiful and and inspiring. A very fine work that I unhesitatingly recommend.

This is a familiar historical story beautifully retold. I love christmas literatureReviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 February 2018
This is a familiar historical story beautifully retold. I love christmas literature, and this one is beautiful visually and content-wise. It was written by UK's Poet Laureate (2009) Carol Ann Duffy so you can't go wrong. This would make a beautiful gift to any one, but so far I have kept mine for myself. :)

Biggest disappointment of the festive seasonReviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 December 2020
What a huge disappointment. Lovely book but the pages were all joined together. It was meant as a present but I cannot give it like this. Even if I try to cut the pages, the edges are ragged and untidy. So sad
