I finished reading The Flatshare yesterday. It took me nearly 10 days to complete this book and it was totally worth the time.
The story is about Tiffy and Leon who decide to do a flat share in a single bedroom apartment. Tiffy works as an editor of DIY genre books and Leon is a nurse. The story starts off with Tiffy moving in to Leon's flat as a tenant after having dealt with a messy breakup. And as a part of the contract, they are not supposed to see each other in person. So, they interact via Post It notes. This aspect adds so much warmth to the story and finally in the middle of the book the protagonists end up meeting as the circumstance demands for it. Both Tiffy and Leon are warm and huggable characters filled with kindness and love. The story does have a predictable ending and the supporting characters, Tiffy's friend and Leon's patients and brother add all the more warmth and fun to the story.
The language was simple and eloquent and I liked the flow of the story. It was precise and unique because of the first part of the story. The descriptions of the scenes and people were rich with imagery. I am going to give this book a 4/5.

Not just a love story
When I stumbled upon The Flatshare and read the blurb, I knew that I would love it. I am so happy to say that yes, I was right and I absolutely loved this book.
WHY I LOVED IT:
**Interesting story set up
Tiffy is an assistant editor for a niche independent DIY and crafts publisher who often overworks and in return, her company pays her a pittance. She is searching for a cheaper flat to live after her wealthy and manipulative ex-boyfriend, Justin, evicts her from his flat because of involvement with another woman. Leon wanted some extra money to pay to his brother’s lawyer, who was framed for an armed robbery and was in jail. When Tiffy saw the advertisement for Leon’s one bedroom flat, she was more than happy to accept the offer. Leon had night shifts at the hospitals and he only lived in the apartment from 9 to 5. So he wanted someone who would live there after his working hours. Tiffy and Leon shared a bed but the interesting thing is they never met each other. They used to talk with post-it notes. Soon these small conversations through notes made them good friends and they started to understand each other without even meeting.
**Adorable characters
I loved Tiffy. She was like your girl next door, talkative, energetic, outgoing and had a devastating fashion sense. Leon, on the other hand, was reserved in nature and was a man of few words. But as they say, opposites attract each other and thus later, they form a quirky and interesting relationship. Richie, Leon’s younger brother, was a fun character. I loved how he talked to Tiffy and made her comfortable and known without even meeting her. Mo and Gerty were Tiffy’s best friend and were always there for her as her support system. Rachel was Tiffy’s co-worker and they had quite interesting friendship too. I hated Justin so much. He was Tiffy’s ex-boyfriend. He was manipulative and aggressive.
**Not just a love story
The Flatshare is not just a love story. It is way more than that. It is about celebrating friendship, life, grief and overcoming your fears. It is also about an important form of abuse in a relationship- mental abuse.
**Amazing writing
Beth O’Leary has written a wonderful novel. Her writing is mesmerising and humorous. She has created a wonderful set of characters with whom you would relate. You would instantly fall for Leon and Tiffy. With the alternate POVs, the story keeps you hooked till the end. In the beginning, the story feels to be a light read. But as you move forward it becomes more emotional. Along with being emotional, there are so many humorous moments which really kept the story interesting.
**Overall
I would definitely recommend The Flatshare to all the contemporary romance lovers. This is an appealing, fun and entertaining read while also handling some important issues like abuse. With an interesting plot and lively characters, Beth O’Leary has delivered an amazing read which I would remember for a long time.

It's an entertaining story from the word go. I loved the whole communication between Tiffy and Leon via post-it notes. Everyone: Tiffy, Leon, Richie, Gerty, Mo, Rachel, Holly have their unique characters portrayed beautifully. I loved Tiffy's character the most and wish I too had a friend like Mo, who would know exactly what to say and when to say and when not to say anything! Gerty reminded me of Roza Dias from Brooklyn Nine Nine. The romance between Tiffy and Leon is built-up slowly and very well. I was looking for a light read and this book just served the purpose perfectly! Would definitely recommend to rom-com lovers.

Good storyline. Really good writing (hilarious at some points). I liked the communication using post it notes. The whole little brother in prison part is also good.
What I didn't like is the poor chemistry between main characters. The stalking by ex-boyfriend is not convincing. Also I couldn't connect with main characters.

The story kept me hooked to the pages till the end. In the last few pages, the story was predictable and it became a bit cliche for me. But I really loved the concept and the story around Tiffy and Leon's growing attachment for each other. An abusive boyfriend like Justin can clearly take a toll on any woman! I am glad that it was a happy and light read. I felt happy after finishing the book. Definitely worth a try.

Average book for light readers, with a lot of one liners.
not for avid ones used to intelligent humor or witty plots. Not hillarious for sure, neither a gripping story plot either.

Stayed up all night to read this in one setting. It's really hard to put down. Loved the quirky characters, the unconventional heroine, and the compassion throughout the book.

I accidentally downloaded the book on my phone instead of my Kindle and was super annoyed about it what with the smaller screen and all. BUT, once I started reading I couldn't care less about the device. The story is so well written that you get hooked in a few short pages. From finding out about this book to finishing it took mere days.

A huge disappointment. A star given for cover.

The cover, title and plot caught my attention immediately. I ordered it within minutes of reading the synopsis and was excited to have it in hands by the evening. (Thanks prime same-day!) However just under 60 pages in and I've had to throw in the towel. The grammar, writing style and dialogue is horrendous. It feels immature, pointless and painful to wade through. I am surprised given the hype its received that it was published with this awkward style. Screenplay novels have more depth than this.
Annie: yuck, like urgh.
Frown in annoyance. Throw book. Want refund.

How this book ever got published is a mystery . There were many reviews before it was even released and a lot of press coverage . Sadly I fell for it , I wasn't looking for Shakespeare but Jo Jo Moyes must be insulted by any comparisons.. I could write a novel on how awful and unreadable it is , after four attempts i put it in the charity bag , it really deserved the bin . Don't waste your money .

Uplifting and charming debut

"Double bedroom in sunny one-bed Stockwell flat, rent £350 per month including bills. Available immediately, for six months minimum. Flat (and room/is to share with twenty-seven-year-old palliative care nurse who works nights and is away weekends. Only ever in the flat 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday. All yours the rest of the time! Perfect for someone with 9 to 5 job. To view, contact L. Twomey... "
Tiffy Moore's manipulative boyfriend, Justin, has left her for another woman so she is flat-hunting in London. Her niche publishing job (crocheting books by up-and-coming author Katherin) doesn't pay minimum wage so, despite concern from workmate Racheland friends Gerty (a criminal lawyer) and Mo (a psychologist) she rents L. (Leon) Twomey's flat. Leon's brother, Richie, is in gaol for an armed robbery he didn't commit and girlfriend Kay, is non-to supportive. Big-hearted, Leon is also trying to track-down elderly knitting-fiend, Mr Prior's wartime lover, 'Johhny White' in the short time Mr Prior has left whilst looking after poorly, but sparky, Holly.
Via post-it note conversations in the flat they share but are never in at the same time, Leon and Tiffy become friends chatting and offering advice about their lives. When Richie's appeal is not going well it is Tiffy who steps up to help winning a newly single Leon over.
I read this from its publication date and over the Easter weekend that followed. A joyous romcom novel (which won me over despite not being my favourite genre) that matched the bright and sunny weather. Tiffy and Leon are genuinely lovely people dealing with difficult circumstances and thrown together just when they need it. A charming love story that is well worth a read.

Loved it. Read in less than 24 hours - simply couldn’t stop. Joyful

The main premise of this book is simply brilliant and there’s so much more to this story than the catchy Strapline. Having read it so quickly I’m having to take a moment to remember all the wonderfully woven in subplots. You want to be friends with (nearly) all the characters. The writing is witty, observations on point and the relationship between Leon and Tiffy gave me actual butterflies. It just zips through - couldn’t recommend it highly enough and can’t wait for the next story from the author

I pre-ordered this in hopes it was good but like many others i was apprehensive. Im a busy beauty therapist that tends to work 12hours most days so when i got the flu i took all opportunity and read this book in a full day, i kid you not I COULD NOT put it down at all! Brilliant unique storyline and each character is perfectly described and everything about it was hilarious yet emotional. Was genuinely sad finishing this book, hoping theres more even though this is only the first! Ps my photo is clearly edited to match the theme for my instagram aesthetic (@farrelleoo11)
