I have no words to praise this novel. This is the best example of how a simple story can be told in a unique way. I just loved Juliano's character. The climax is really heart touching.

A Very interesting novel amongst MP's. One can't escape from coming back once started to read. It captivates readers attention for its twists and surprises. Nice one as the story was about goons and bandits and their dreaded life. Good satisfaction for the readers angle.

At one point i felt a surge to tear the book into pieces for killing TURI GIULIANO..... and couldn't read further or imagine the rest of the story .....i'm sure that every one who goes through the book will experience coup de foudre with "TURI GIULIANO" and the love towards him keeps ascending till his demise and quadruples after the demise. His death is unendurable makes us physically feeble and mentally ill. A feeling which is inexplicable and our mind gets struck with it.

The story would have been equally interesting without intertwining it with God Father story. May be it was a ploy to sell more to the fans of the classic.

Disappointing after the Godfather
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 August 2016Verified Purchase
This was just OK. The Michael Corleone link is totally unnecessary so felt like a cynical way to sell the book. Adds nothing to the story-and is short. I found the path to legend totally unrealistic for the main character. If you not are interested in bandits living in a mountain give this a miss. Finished the book and felt short changed. This has no relation to the Godfather book, so don't buy if that's what you are looking for.

can't get enough

this is a kind of a book you can't get enough of and want to keep reading. just wish there was a movie based on this book. could be a good competition for The Godfather movies. I would even dare to say I enjoyed this book more than I did The Godfather.

Intimacy and charm
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 June 2020Verified Purchase
‘I never tell secrets...not even in my dreams’ Michael Corleone, The Sicilian, Mario Puzo.
Mario Puzo brings the same intimacy and charm to ‘The Sicilian’ as to ‘The Godfather’.
With the same gentle pace Puzo paints the scene of the secret whispers of Sicilian villages and mountains with romantic mysticism and beauty.
Interweaving the true story of a Sicilian legend, Salvatore Giuliano, with one of Puzo’s most well known characters, Michael Corleone, Puzo builds characters that are believable and endearing.
Through their stories the reader shares in their fear, darkness and loneliness but also in their optimism and hope. Puzo’s ability to capture the true sense of loyalty, gratitude, friendship and trust is second to none.

Not in same league as the GODFATHER!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 November 2019Verified Purchase
After reading THE GODFATHER this was very disappointing. I would recommend you to NOT BOTHER with this. Unlike GODFATHER this is as one dimensional as a child's English homework essay. No intrigue! A one dimensional tale of a local hero in 1940s Sicily becoming a bandit and outlaw, eventually hunted down and killed. Big deal!!!!

Thoroughly enjoyable
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2019Verified Purchase
If you are a fan of The Godfather trilogy then this book will fill in some more detail of Sicily - only briefly touched upon in the trilogy - the same game of power and force seen in the trilogy continues here and carries on just after Michael Corleone’s first wife is murdered when Michael is still in Sicily and requested by his father to help with the escape of a notorious bandit. The book concentrates on Guliano’s life rather more than Michael’s time in Sicily. It’s an engaging read which I really enjoyed.
