My favorite of The Stud Club trilogy. I've read nearly all of Tessa Dare's books and I love how her stories aren't the same formula every time. Her heroines aren't all jaw-dropping beautiful, 18 year old naïve virgins and her heroes aren't all drop-dead gorgeous, invincible knights in shining armor. Alone her characters are real and flawed and when they come together they are perfect. I could not put this one down.
Sometimes, but not often, I know a book is going to be amazing within the first chapter. A slow grin and feeling of warmth begins to grow within me, and my first thought is that I dread the unavoidable truth that this book will end. Each word I cherish reading while at the same time, I lament my progress to the book’s completion. I love when this phenomina happens and this happened when I Tessa Dare’s Three Nights With a Scoundrel.
This is the third and final book in the Dare’s Stud Club Trilogy. While it is not necessary to read the prior two novels in the series, One Dance with a Duke and Twice Tempted by a Rogue, they add even more depth to this story and are excellent books as well.
Julian Bellamy is our hero, and he is a bastard and a rake. While these themes are often found in romance novels, the heroes are also often not the stuff dreams are made of UNTIL they are reformed by the heroine. While Julian is most definitely flawed and has not always made the most admirable of choices, he is at his core a sensitive, loving and swoon-worthy man prior to the heroine’s love. He is on my top ten list of fictional heroes, and I admit I am a little in love myself.
Lily Chadwick is our heroine and Julian’s deceased, best friend Leo’s sister. Leo was murdered and the mystery surrounding his death is the plot tying the three books in the series together. Lily and Julian have also shared a true friendship and are both devastated by his death. Leo was not only Lily’s twin, he was also her main support as she is deaf due to an illness nine years prior.
Julian has actually been in love with Lily this entire time. He knows and admits his feelings for Lily (only to himself) but does not consider himself worthy of her and blames himself for Leo’s murder; therefore, he struggles to connect with her during their grieving when Lily arguably needs him the most. He is only able to support and fiercely protect her from afar where he knows his heart is safe.
Julian’s character and past unfold while Lily’s discover’s her true feelings for him. She also finds her true self and strength after the loss of her twin and the identity that close relationship created, especially as Leo was her main support after he hearing loss. Ms. Dare describes and presents Lily’s deafness beautifully and at the same time interestingly. Other sensitive topics, which would be spoilers if identified in this review, are weaved into the story in an eloquent, admirable and loving way adding to its depth.
Of course, the mystery of Leo’s murder is solved in this conclusion to the series. While I know some found the resolution less than satisfying, I found it to fit the plot appropriately. This book is at its heart a beautiful love story between Julian and Lily and not a murder mystery. The character’s love for Leo was obvious and the answers to the whys surrounding his death gave that love its proper due.
In my opinion, this book can only be described as the perfect romance novel. It is an emotional and moving journey that I can’t stop thinking about. The sexual tension and intimate scenes are beautiful and support my claim of perfection. I cried. I smiled. I was moved and, of course, I was so very sad to reach the end.
Every book that I have read by this author is really good. It has a lot of romance and a lot of guessing what's going to happen next. This book is as good as the other three. I hope I can find more of her books. You must read it's great.
Wow! What a finish to the Stud Club trilogy! I stayed up way too late finishing it -- and I never saw the surprise coming straight at me. There's also a beautiful romance here, between Julian, the bastard son of a nobleman, and Lily, the deaf sister of his murdered friend Leo. Tessa Dare just does everything right in this one!
Once again Ms. Dare has created the perfect 'imperfect' man. This story had soooo many different storylines going on, however, it was easily followed. I loved the twists and turns, but the way it all tied up in the end was just.... Sigh. I LOVE THIS BOOK!
