As the author repeatedly has mentioned, this book was an experiment. He has written it in a screenplay format and not like a typical novel. I liked this experiment.
When the dialogues came up, I could visualize myself sitting for play with the actors enacting the scenes on stage and the emotions palpable even from a distance.
The language is smooth and good. The story though short flows smoothly.
The characters are just 4 and play their part well. The army and gentleman demeanor was endearing. Its hard to find it these days and I am sure ladies love it.
What I wanted more:
Bigger story. It will make a full fledged, well fleshed out novel. I would want to read it even though I know the story.
Let's start with the title that is different. It doesn't reveal a lot. The cover shows a couple walking on a deserted road. The plot is simple. Characterization is good and justified. Language is lucid and error free.
What I liked?
The introduction of the characters.
The unique style of writing.
The narration that is fast but easy to follow.
The emotions captured by the author in a short story.
The suspense of the mystery maintained till the end.
The unpredictable and wonderful climax
What I didn't like?
There was nothing for me to dislike in the story except that it was short and ended abruptly.
The final verdict
It's a nice short read that takes you on an emotional journey. And the book can be finished within an hour.
My only grouse, it was too brief. Now the author does explain the origins of the story and it makes sense. But I felt it lacking meat. I would have loved to read a bit more of a repartee between the characters and the basis of some conclusions they come to.
Overall, this is a quick, short read :)
I loved the way he has blended screenwriting and storytelling. It felt like watching a play. You could see the story unfold as you read. It was simple and sweet. It made me feel happy on an otherwise grey rainy day.
Though the story line is fairly simple what makes it stand out are the words of wisdom scattered throughout the book.
Love the ending of the story. Nice book cover, clear and developed characters.
