When I was growing up, we had a 3-books-in-1-volume set of Tom Sawyer tales. The first one was the classic The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I read it, laughed myself silly over some of the classic scenes, like Tom whitewashing the fence and feeding the cat his medicine, and started in on the two sequels with a high sense of anticipation. And they fell completely flat.
This is a mildly interesting kids' adventure tale, with Tom, Huck and Jim sailing over Africa in a hot air balloon. The characters are sillier and the story lacks the kind of insight you might have expected. Mark Twain was in dire financial straits by this time, and I think he churned out these sequels without putting a lot of thought into them. Too bad.

It's so great to see more adventures of Tom Sawyer. Kids love it. Mark Twain has done a wonderful job writing this book and series and it is so interesting that it's difficult to put the book down. To me it was not as good as the first one but still it is thoroughly entertaining.

Mark Twain is very remarkable in weaving history, geographic and adventure with his characters. The language they use make the story more unique and exclusively. For example every time when we read 'Mars Tom' we feel the word from our own heart. So admirable.

I enjoyed reading it. Although I'm bit disappointed with the ending. And little disappointed to see Huck underestimate Tom's knowledge

classic and entertaining

Even though this was writen many years ago it is still very entertaining. Twain's style of writing subtlely and eloquently conveys the political and cultural ethos of the time wrapped in a story tale for adults. Highly recommend.

Entertaining take, but I am sure he could have made it include even more variety, and it ends all too sudden

I read Tom Sawyer's adventures when I was only seven years old. Since then, he became my best book- friend. There is nothing in this book that I don't like to read again and again.
What fascinates me the most is the understanding of what is work and what is play! So easy yet so hard to fathom! Aunt Polly is cool as it's not easy to put up with Tom's pranks.
A true classical masterpiece from Mark Twain.

This book is uncomfortably large.
Reviewed in the United States on 21 May 2020Verified Purchase
This book is MUCH larger than I expected. It measures 8.5”x11”. It feels like a large text book. It‘s difficult to read because of its size; being paperback it’s difficult to hold at a comfortable distance.
I can’t really complain because this was so inexpensive. But I may order the individual books in a smaller size too. I just don’t know that I’m going to read this due to it’s inconvenient size and feel.
