I earlier had two of this exact model, both purchased in Germany. They both failed after 2 or 3 years of usage. When they fail, they would refuse to read anything at all - the system simply won't detect it.
I was cursing myself for purchasing this, and purchased another brand last year called "Quantum Zero", but that turned out to be an utter garbage. It would mark all the files in my card as corrupted.
I ended up purchasing this again, and it works well and all my cards are back to normal (I use SD, CF, and a variety of other cards for various purposes).
I have rated it merely 3 stars due to my negative experience with 2 of my previous readers of this exact make/model that failed in 3 years time.
It's a plug & play device instant recognition on the computer, no drivers needed.
Overall i'm satisfied with the purchase.
good quality cable.
does the job for me.
nice and compact., can be carried in trouser pockets if needed.
definitely worth the purchase.
good alternative to other products available
complete value for money.
Before this I purchased "Iball Cr24 Card Reader With 24 Types Of Memory Card Support". it was available at cheap rate but it didn't worked at all. Waste of money. then i bought this transcend card reader.. it's kind of one time investment, working very fine.
Increase your budget & Go for this !!

It is impressively compact for a multi format reader, and feels well made. The supplied USB 3 cable is short, ideal for connecting to a laptop, if you're going to use it with a desktop you may need a longer cable depending on the position of your ports.
The claimed speeds are of course under ideal conditions, but I am satisfied with the speeds I'm seeing. Using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SD card (rated at 95MB/s read speed) I'm seeing sustained transfer rates of around 30MB/s when transfering photos taken with my DSLR (I shoot RAW+ with my 16MPix camera, so each frame is ~ 1x30MB RAW and 1x10MB JPEG). That's about 3x what I was getting from the built in reader and is around what I was expecting with this mix of file sizes.
All around, excellent for the money.
It's made of plastic and very lightweight so time will tell how long it lasts but I'm quite careful with my stuff and have secured it with some sticky pads so it shouldn't get damaged. It's very compact and looks smart. The blue LED stays on all the time and flashes when the cards are in use. You can use multiple cards at the same time apart from SD and MicroSD where you can only use one (or other) at a time. Includes free file recovery software download as well - nice bonus!
Not much more to say other than it does the job very well. If you're a professional you may want something even faster and more heavy duty but I think for the average home user this is all you need. I'll look out for the Transcend brand in future.
There are some of you out there that will have computers and even laptops which will struggle to read SDHC without some sort of card reader...I have an older type reader and when I put my SD card in,,,it just wouldn't cut it...it will not read it because the card reader is not up to the job, so I had to put it into the supplied Micro mate reader which helped...so to have a card reader which will read Anything put in it,..this will do the job fine.
The device does have a rather small lead which might not suit some and can be very stiff and you will have to let the card reader find it's own level once connected to your computer..it also has quite a plastic feel....cheap even...but what matters is inside the device and it does it's job well...The results I got from my high speed cards did not disappoint.. they did what they were advertised at....but like I said earlier...just because it's USB 3 do not expect it to turn your cards into USB 3 speed along with it.
My reason for 4 stars was the build quality...other then this it's a nice piece of kit.
If you only have USB 2 then it will still work, but you won't see any speed difference from other card readers.
I use it for CF cards for my camers and it reads it without difficulty - I haven't tried other cards but it would do the same for them I am sure.
I use Transend for a lot of my cards, but I do have other makes and all work fine.
The reader itself looks smart - a simple but sleek box shape. It connects to your computer via a supplied USB mini to USB 3 lead. This is very short - not a problem for laptops, but if your computer is tucked away under a desk it may be awkward. You can disconnect te lead from the reader and use the lead on its own if your camera (or other device) has a mini USB connection as an alternative connecting method, but again think of the short lead.
Overall I am very happy. This sort of device either will be great or rubbish depending on how you want to use it. For me it is great!
A USB 3.0 cable is supplied, fortunately, as the connector on the reader is not one I've come across before. The cable is only about 18" (46cm) long, which is not a problem for me, but others may need to buy a longer cable.
There are much more expensive USB 3.0 card readers about but I cannot see why anyone would need to spend more than the £11.49 this costs.
