John Evans has returned from war after 10 years of fighting Napoleon. He is the new minted Marquess of Lowenbrock. We first meet John in Bk.1 Loving the Marquess of Landing a Lord series. John is brother to Louisa who married the Marquess of Overlea.
On his way home to take up his new title. John and some friends are having goodbye drinks in a bar. A barmaid named Molly is being accosted by a man in the bar and John come to her rescue. Only later to find out she is his Spinster Ward 25 year old Amelia Weston the now deceased Marquess niece.
This is wear the story just goes wrong in my opinion. In 1816 at the age of 25 your not only on the shelf your hidden in the closet. So why does Amelia need a Guardian. She is way to old for a protector or guardian.
The other problem I had with the story is there is no real storyline. Its slow and boring. The ending felt like the author had to force some angst in the story which made the story feel forced. I think the author didn't have a real story for John so whatever came into her mind she wrote into the story!!
