Every one of these connected short stories will amaze you. Jason Reynolds can write about this stuff better than anyone. I read his books twice: once for the compelling story, and a second time, for the fun of watching his tale-telling skills.
My son has read many Jason R's books. He said Look Both Ways is great that the narration is very nature. He can picture his friends saying and doing the things in the book (his words "doesn't sound like the writer pretended to be young and used hip words, it's not cringey). This is a book he willingly picked up and read instead of me pushing him to read.
I read this book for school and it really surprised me. When my teacher told me we were going to read this book I didn't think it would be anything special. After the first chapter I was already excited to read the book even more. The clever small similarities in each chapter really hooked me. The last chapter wa my favorite as all the stories intertwined to help tell the last main characters story. Jasob Reynolds dod an amazibg job and I can't wait to read it all again. Spectacular job Mr.Reynolds, spectacular .
This is an excellent collection of short stories for a middle school classroom. As a teacher, I plan to use a chapter as a stand-alone story. Jason Reynold's writing is so beautiful. He is the master of metaphors and figurative language that makes his writing so rich.
One can never go wrong with Jason Reynolds! This is a great book for middle-school kids. I plan to have it in my high school classroom as well because many of my students will love the way he writes and can identify with the characters.
