5.0 out of 5 starsA perfect summer read, for your contemporary heart! ❤

5 stars / 5 stars!

This was my first Becky Albertali book, and I'm so, so glad I picked this gem of a book up :) it's just such a cute novel, that I'm currently grinning from ear to ear even thinking about it. 😁🙈
The lead protagonist, Molly, was such a relatable and hilarious character; I'd give this book a whole damn galaxy of stars if I could, for the diversity of contained in it, & mainly for how well it handled the whole scenario of melange!

This book not only gives you all the feels when your feelings went unrequited (yeah, we've all been there 😂💔), but it adds up a whole new level of plot to it by focusing on not just Molly's love life, but also the family aspect, which I feel is widely ignored in the YA genre lately.

The Upside of Unrequited will make you swoon, laugh, cry and cuddle, all in the span of 300 pages; the author's narrative is really impreßive as to how real the characters feel. Can't WAIT to read her future literary works!

Loads of love for this book! 💙

3.0 out of 5 starsPerfect for 15 year olds and below, lacks realism
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 1 June 2021
Overall it’s a nice product. The text is clear and readable, and the pages are of good quality. But the content is where it lacks.

My 13 year old self would have adored it. It is a perfect read for 15 year olds or younger, but not if you’re aiming for realistic approach in this fiction book.

I think the author did a pretty good job exposing the hardships of LGBTQ+ parents even in the modern world, and we got a semi-toxic relative so things did get real. But the writing is plain. There is a storyline, but there is confusion if any character development happened or not. And the way it deals with insecurities didn’t sit right with me. This is my personal review.
So do read it if you’re below 15, or buy it for someone under 15 years old age. But not if you’re not a big fan of cliches. I am rating it 3 stars because the content was engaging and kept me going.

I think the book was just trying too much?! There were so many diverse characters, like so many (Molly’s moms, a pan-sexual Korean American girlfriend, Jews, gay best friends you name it..) i think it was all just for reaching said groups. One dying character would have completed the list i guess…The only part of the book i actually liked was the twins’ relationship. That was real.. the feeling of hurt and being invisible to your own sibling after he/she becomes involved in a relationship and to top it all you learn about said relationship through social media!. That was… sad.. and it was what kept me hooked to the book. Like i wanted to know how do they rectify their situation.. But I don’t mean that i liked Cassie. She was mean to her sister, a little bossy at times.A huge disappointment, this one

I like how the characters were realistic and believable but the plot wasn’t good. Everything. Literally all of the protagonist’s self worth depended on getting a boyfriend. It was a lil sad

Trust me you will feel that the author has gone inside your brain and recorded the all the little nuances of your being that are so natural to you that you don't even acknowledge them. So raw, so real. I can't rave enough, you need this book in your life.

Where do I even begin with this book? I loved everything, from the characters to the writing style to EVERYTHING. The characters in this book are all so diverse and the diversity is really well-done, too.
All in all, this is a perfect light-hearted contemporary read and I loved this a lot.

Umm... The language of the book is not up to the mark, but story is deliberately woven in modern set up. So I believe this is 3.5 star book, as you can read it once as a piece of entertainment not literature.
