The book lives up to all the amazing reviews. My lil one has always loved Eric Carle books - the white background and contrasting color pic. The book is a good size for my 20-month old. He likes to flick through to look at all the animals. I agree with one of the reviewers about the touch and feel being not exactly as explained in the description - its only the spider web that a child can feel and the multi-sensory is a gross exaggeration. But its not a deal breaker.
My kid loves the book :)

Product description
Amazon.com Review
Every young child should be introduced to this story, as great a classic as its predecessor, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This colorful picture book describes a spider's day. Blown onto a farmyard fence, she starts to spin a web. The other animals ask if she wants to play, but in every case "the spider didn't answer. She was very busy spinning her web." The book is touchable: elements including the strands of web are embossed on the pages and you can follow them with your fingertips. But the best thing by far is Carle's familiar, yet still breathtaking skill as an illustrator. Especially in this large 11.5-by-8.5-inch format, his cow, goat, and dog (just to mention three favorites) capture the essence of each animal in a way few artists can hope to approach. It is again one of those Eric Carle's books that deliver an important message through stories that are fun to read with the young ones. It is the story of a spider who chooses to quietly do what might seem as mundane and routine work while everyone else around is trying to distract it with potentially interesting things. In the end it is because of that routine work, it is rewarded.
Beautiful illustrations, high quality printing, sturdy board book with touch and feel to ever growing spider's web. Me and my son have ended up reading it many many times together.

Choice of books is subjective aince each book offers the story in a different way. This one is liked more because of the texture it offers ( i ordered a board book), though the story and illustration are just about average. Kids who are voracious readers will like it, those building interest may take time.

Nice book with colourful pictures of animals..it contains a number of pages and my 15 months baby loose interest when i read them all. She simply likes to turn the pages and look at the animals and fly on each page. This book is very similar to brown bear brown bear what do you see. So now my baby has three books which are all about animals..brown bear, spider and oh dear :)

Great book for kids, i didn't know it had sensory illustration too, loved the texture of the spiders web and the spider and fly too! really interesting how all the animals keep asking the spider different questions as she finishes her web. Ending is also very nice. Good quality eric carle is a master at children's books.

My daughter loves this book. Again, wonderful book by Eric Carle. Nice pictures. My Toddler recognizes all animals now and so its fun to show her the book. Loved this one after Brown Bear, Head to Toe and Panda Bear. I think another must have book.

Lovely book with farm animals
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 November 2019Verified Purchase
The book in itself its a lovely story of a spider building her web and being asked questions by different farm animals but she is too busy spinning her web!
My little one loves this book, it's helping him recognise the farm animals and now can do the sounds to a few of them!
The Web is slightly embossed so it's a good touchy feely book too
The only downside is that I got this second hand wish I paid that bit extra and got it brand new

Beautiful book. Fell apart quickly
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 February 2021Verified Purchase
The book is fantastic. The fly, spider and silky thread have texture so a happy tactile surprise. Illustrations beautiful and a whole collection of friendly animals to enchant small and big humans alike...
BUT - the book has no structural integrity and promptly fell apart in my toddler's hands. She hasn't destroyed any of her other board books, some of which have been entertaining her for over a year, but this one was quite "crunchy" and pages began separating almost immediately. The whole book is now one mess of fixing-tape, and still not sturdy enough. SHAME!!

Bad manufacturing bound incorrectly

Great story but unfortunately we must have been given a dodgy copy which has been bound incorrectly as all the pages look like the photo. Luckily the pages seem to have been printed after binding as the story is kn the right order. Doesn't take away from the story itself but very disappointed. I expect better from Amazon

Simple but effective. Nice bedtime read.

Simple and repetitive but one of my child's faves, and still less monotonous than other books. The raised web is fun to feel, and my child now makes the noises of the animals on each page, and takes glee in pointing out the fly in every picture too.

I have to say what a pleasent surprise it was to find this book. I searched for the hungry caterpillar book, obviously a classic, to find this one come up in the recommendations. I honestly had o idea there was a series of these books. Its lovely, a simple story but beautiful illustrations and although bought for a friend, there little girl has really enjoyed it. Will certainly be purchasing one for my kids. With it being hard back its resiliant, especially, if like my kids, everything goes straight in the mouth (we have the hungry caterpillar in this format). Would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the hungry caterpillar as a kids, or has kids that love it......think theres a lazy ladybird one too.......exciting!
