To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This is a well crafted and beautifully written novel. It is a moving and engaging tale that keeps you invested in the narrator's story. The horrors of slavery are well documented but this is a new voice bringing a new perspective with vivid imagery and often wistful prose.
The ornate language used in this book puts us in the time it was set. Not so different that it's hard to follow, just enough to immerse us in that world. The story has been structured like a classical architect would plan an ornate cathedral - both functional and beautiful. I'm glad I read it.
The portrayal of the underbelly of south and the strength of the Tasked just to exist held me enthralled. The awakening of the gift the Hiriam possess was steady and kept the momentum of the story rolling at the correct level which made it near impossible for me to put down. An excellent read.
