Review
"Narrator Thor Willink, the author's son, sounds just about Marc's age, and his dad voices the adults. This choice lends a personal note...The audio version has plenty of humor..." -School Library Journal

Got both the books by Jocko Willink for my Son.
He love the book as it is very relatable to things all kids face. It's so cool to sit close with them at the end of the day and read about things like the importance of honor, discipline, courage, teamwork, and a moral code.

It is a simple read, hardly takes 3-4 hours. Yet the clarity with which the author has presented his ideas is something missing in most of the self-help books out there. This is significant for adults as well, so I would recommend everyone to give it a shot. Better late than never.

Fantastic book for kids...Gifted it to my 9 year old niece who loves the Wimpy kid series..This book changed her idea of being a wimpy kid to a warrior kid which is the real life fighter kid attitude...She sees me as Uncle Jack :D

My Son loved this
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 April 2018Verified Purchase
I ordered this for my son after it was reccomended to me as a good book to inspire young boys. As he isn’t a big reader, in fact he has to be pushed to read anything, I was expecting to have to read a bit to him and cajole him into picking up the book.
I gave it to him and said he could read for as long as he liked in bed, expecting to go up 20 minutes later and find him asleep. Instead, he came into my room around midnight to tell me he had read the entire book!
I’ve never known him to read more than 10 minutes at a time so he must have really enjoyed this.
Hopefully he also picked up the really positive message about how achieve what you want through working for it!

Just bought this in addition to other books but my daughter loves it
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 August 2018Verified Purchase
I was buying some other books by Jocko but I thought I will add this one. I knew it is directed mostly for boys and probably older (my daughter is 6) but I thought same principles will apply. I was surprised that my daughter shown huge interest in this book, had to explain bullies and pull ups and why boys are that way and not other but it was worth it.
I have noticed that my daughter is now more invested in the sport play we do and wants me to teach her "things" as well we are doing the times table now which is great. I will try to enroll her for BJJ when she is bit older as well.
Great book Jocko and will buy second one when it is out for sure.

Should be a blueprint for school kids
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 December 2018Verified Purchase
Being an all round legend and fantastic father I thought that there was nothing for my kids to glean from Jocko ( a bit of a softy that I could physically destroy and outperform even with the flu ) but surprisingly it has been very informative!! Ha ha, it's a fantastic read for boys and girls, I love this guy and his ethics, principles and blueprint to success ( and health, self respect, happiness etc ) are understood from 5 year olds to board room directors the world over. I love Jocko's podcast and was really pleased when i found out he writes kids books. My two girls and boy aged 10, 6 and 6 love it. This should be in educational curriculum. Awesome

Powerful childhood story that you and your kids will love!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 May 2020Verified Purchase
Not only is this book an easy read, it highlights the experiences most of us go through as young children. Lack of confidence, bullying, social pressure at school and laziness.
This is a must read for all kids who are lacking direction or motivation in life.
The author Jocko Willink is such an incredible, humble, successful man and in this book he comes in the form of a super cool navy seal uncle Jake who is the perfect role model for kids who do not want to listen to their parents!
The message of self improvement, discipline, humility and hard work is the perfect recipe for success and creating a successful mind set.
My son loves it and parents can also learn a lot !

Warning, it really works!!! Excellent book for kids and adults.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 December 2019Verified Purchase
This is a great book for children and adults. The lessons a current and very helpful. The story is relatable to real life situations kids face everyday in school and adults get some lessons about good encouraging parenting. Very encouraging and helpful to boost kids confidence. Love it, the only thing I missed is a warning lable because now my kids wake me up with a tin lid and wood spoon when I don't wake up on time! We all end up wanting to have a uncle Jake in our lives.
