When you get a lemon tree...make lemonade!!! This how-to story is delightful! The illustrations are beautiful! Love it from cover to cover! You don’t always get what you want—but maybe grandma knows better than even you do :-)
We received this highly anticipated picture book and it did not disappoint! We absolutely love it!! It is written in such an engaging, witty and clever way that made it not only fun for the kids to follow along with, but also for the parent/reader. I highly recommend you add it to your library - it’s a keeper!
Our family loves this book and we would highly recommend it! Such a beautiful story with amazing illustrations to go with it. This is an instant classic in our family with a great message about building community and learning that sometimes when you don’t get exactly what you wish for that it can be a blessing in disguise.
I purchased this book as a memorial book for my mother who passed away earlier this summer. She was an avid reader that loved being a grandmother so it was very fitting. She even resembled the grandmother in the story a little bit. It is a very sweet story about the relationship between a grandmother and granddaughter. My mother always liked picking out children's books with colorful pictures which this book has. This is a very lovely book and I look forward to more books by this author.
Grandma gives a Lemon Tree full of ideas! She knows that kids today spend so much time on their electronic devices and that maybe mom and dad have relied on them too much to keep their kids company. What to do with a lemon tree? Caring for a live plant takes time, plus a bit of love and thoughtfulness - especially in this book! Lorraine Rocha is one of my favorite illustrators! She brings the story to life and adds the right amount of whimsy to entertain people of all ages! Read this book to your little ones to get them interested in the "doing of things"; have your middle schoolers read it when they need to be reminded that their electronic devices can and need to be put down so they can revisit the world of their own imaginations. Read it again yourself just for the fun of it!
Thank you Jamie and Lorraine for creating such a brilliant story!
All four of my children (ages 3, 5, 8, and 9) really enjoyed this story! I have a feeling that it will become one of our bedtime favorites! It is such a sweet story with great illustrations that really reiterated how important it is to put down technology and enjoy the world around you.
Jamie's debut book is outstanding! As a mom and a gardener, there's a lot to love about this story of a little girl who gets a lemon tree on her birthday. This was not on her birthday wish list, but as fate would have it, that lemon tree offered more than lemons once it was accepted, fed, protected and loved. This is a book you'll want to keep and share so get at least a couple of copies. The illustrations are bright and cute and Jamie's story telling is clever and fun! My family loves When Grandma Gives a Lemon Tree!
My 15 month old begs for this story several times a day. And I love reading it to her- the illustrations are beautiful and the story is funny and sweet. On the last page my daughter leans in to smell all the pretty flowers and we point out which ones are in our yard. This is a favorite and I can see if being special for years to come.
Love everything about this book. The voice is so fun/punchy and the illustrations of Grandma are terrific. I currently teach 3 year olds - the book feels a little too old for my class but I think it would work perfectly for 4-7.
