Durjoy tries pretty bravely to take up an unusual setup to start the story and I personally loved that part. I felt gripped with the story till both the ‘lovers’ met for the first time. When I was lost to think what’s going to happen in the second half (and I was really expecting something great), I was left disappointed with the prolonged description of the story at hospital and that’s where I felt that the story is getting stretched a lot without any purpose.
There are two things about this novel which keeps the story alive. First, the portrayal of human’s best emotion, that is, love. Durjoy poured his heart over in this one. Every sentence talks about his brilliance in writing. And the second one is a character of Avanti’s father. A lost Mathematician who tries to connect with his daughter to show up his love for her. He was among the most lovable character made by Durjoy, ever.
If this one would be of around 100 pages less than the current length, than it would be one of the best novel by Durjoy. For hardcore ‘Love Story Lovers’ I would like to say, go and grab the book as soon as possible; you’ll love this one
This story, “When Only Love Remains” revolves around two characters;; Avanti, the female protagonist is a young girl who has big dreams but a simple way of living. No matter how much sad she is, only one voice is enough to bring back smile on her face. And that voice is of none but Devrat’s youtube songs/videos. Devrat, a passionate guitarist left out engineering so that he could make a career in music world. A break-up in the past made him even more passionate toward his only love; Guitar. Now in every girl he tries to search his lost love; Arundhanti.
Up to page.193 the story is full of love and would surely bring smile on your face but when you will turn the next pages, I bet you will have tears on your eye.
When only love remains :)
This is one of those few rare books that stir all the emotions within you. Not only that they make you happy, but they even make you sad and cry equally.
Love here is the purest form of it - just simply love, leaving aside the definition framed by the youth as per the modern parameters. And that's the best thing about it.
If you read it, it will leave you smiling to yourself for the coming days, or maybe leave you crying for a few hours. In my case - both happened. :) :)
This is undoubtedly your best work Durjoy and I can see the growth you have made as a writer :) This book portrays the real form of love and that's why you must read it.
When only love remains shows the fact as to how Durjoy has continued to grow as an author. The protagonists are strong, confident and yet exude a sensitivity with a pinch of the spice.
The novel flows at a nice pace the quirky one liners are a treat...
I recommend this read as Durjoy actually ends the drought of sane romance which is practical , sensitive and can be related to real life....
As he says at the start,"Some of it really happened!"

The story starts off at a very slow pace. In fact I had to force myself to read the first half of the book. But, in the next half, the story picked up pace to have a beautiful end—an end almost too good to be true. Even though tears welled up in my eyes a few times throughout the book, even though the book was written beautifully with every character fleshed out, I still couldn’t believe that kind of love exists. It’s too good to be true.
Coming to the story, it’s about a boy (he’s twenty-one) called Devrat, who drops out from engineering to become a singer, and a girl called Avanti. Avanti accidentally stumbles into Devrat’s facebook profile and nurses a secret crush on him. One day, during one of her flight trips to Kolkata, she attends his live performance at a bar and there they talk to each other for the first time. After that first meeting, the story progresses at a rapid pace, with both of them falling in love with each other. Devrat delivers cheesy, ‘cute’ lines, and Avanti calls him her puppy (which irritated me to no end) and both of them have unnatural, deep conversations. Fate intervenes in the form of an accident on their anniversary. I don’t want to reveal further details in case I give the story away.
It’s a regular bittersweet story, but it’s not the plot but lines that is beautiful. Her love for him is so true that it makes you ache from inside. I only hope the story makes sense to eighteen-year-olds in love. I feel I’m already too old for a story like this.
My rating 4/5.
And I cried a lot as well. It's touch my soul. :( .
