This author can take you on a wonderful journey of romance. It starts with letters. Both characters are slightly emotionally damaged and it takes time for them to find their trust in each other. Every book I have read from this author, I have enjoyed. I could not put it down. So far this is my favourite of all her work.
I love Tessa Dare's story telling. She is so assured and witty in her writing. This is a lovely premise - an awkward girl invents a beau who is a soldier away fighting; she writes him letters and fancifully posts them expecting them to end up in a dead letter office. However, she's chosen a fairly common scottish name for her beau and her letters reach a real soldier. Years later he turns up and confronts her, holding her to their supposed betrothal because, of course, he has an agenda of his own. There follows a story of two lonely people and forgotten and displaced soldiers. Warm, funny and utterly beguiling.
Loved this story. Have now read all three in the Castles Ever After series and cannot recommend them highly enough. Tessa Dare has such a light touch when it comes to writing. Madeleine and Logan are totally engaging as heroine and hero and you can't help but root for them as she overcomes her shyness and he his lack of trust. The way Logan looks after his injured and troubled ex-soldiers warms the heart. And we even learn about the injustice of the highland clearances without slipping into preaching. As for Rex and Fluffy the lobsters. Brilliant.
Enjoyable as ever; funny, romantic and loveable characters. When you need that romantic story 'fix', you can rely on Tessa Dare to squeeze those heart strings, make you laugh, sigh and wish the hero was yours! 💞
In order to escape society Miss Peabody invents a fiancé. Years later he turns up at her castle in Scotland, and he is not happy at her having killed him off. A funny book with serious undertones to make a satisfying whole.
Another excellent read by Tessa Dare loved it you seem to know such a great deal a out the Scots I loved Maddie writing to a fictional man only to have the real man arrive Captain Mackenzie Logan all man and every bit as large as life as the dream man
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. Logan the male protagonist was every woman's romantic wish. He was so very human too. As for the heroine she was amusing. For light romance it hits the spot perfectly.
