Will de Wolfe honor stand the test? Or will true love crush a man of good character?
Ronan de Wolfe, the mild-mannered but powerful son of James de Wolfe, married on a whim against the advice of his father and grandfather. He married into the powerful Northumberland de Grey family, a family that rivals the House of de Wolfe in both strength and wealth. Coerced by a cunning de Grey father, Ronan found himself married before he knew what happened.
The years pass. Ronan is married and miserable. His wife has lovers, shaming both houses. Children are born, but they are not Ronan’s. With some measure of peace on the England/Scotland borders, Ronan amuses himself in local tournaments to get away from his horrible home life. Along with his best friend, they enjoy celebrity status of the great tournament champions, but when his friend is mortally wounded and asks Ronan to take care of his pregnant wife, the situation changes drastically.
Ronan meets the woman he should have married.
Isabeth de Brito is a beautiful woman from a minor noble family. Pregnant with her dead husband’s child, she and Ronan form a strong friendship as he tends to her every need, but in Ronan’s case, it is much more. Friendship turns to love. When Ronan’s petty, foolish wife realizes Ronan is paying attention to another woman, innocent as it is, the claws come out. Her powerful family can ruin Isabeth and her family – permanently.
When Isabeth’s father is forced into finding Isabeth another husband, Ronan can only stand by and watch the woman he loves as she is courted by another man.
Will there be a happily ever after for Ronan and Isabeth? Or will Ronan have to watch his love marry another?
It’s another wild ride for de Wolfe Pack Generations.

The De Wolfe clan continue to support each other regardless. A DeWolfe is married to a despicable unworthy woman. (What happened to the Wolf pack marrying for Love & Life KLV has moved on from that it seems!) When Ronan DeWolfe, son of Blaythe, finally falls deeply in love with the new pregnant widow of his deceased best friend, it seems he has a hopeless struggle for any future with his beloved.
One tiny omittance for myself, KLV has no mention of the moment when Ronan first takes the lovely pregnant Isabeth to his bed. Felt deprived of that wooing and first mutual connection. Perhaps she deleted a chapter, but the ABSENCE of the precious first kiss, first touch leading to a first consensual sexual encounter was very notable. [Have recently been reading Monica McCarty and my goodness she writes these initial physical connections brilliantly!]
Second, KLV mentions a Lesbian relationship, why? It did not enhance the story in any way. Felt as though SHE felt she should throw in the possibility of Lesbians in medieval times. Is she going to bring this up again in a future novel?
The constant repeating of Ronan's father Blaythe (formerly James) death and resurrection was a bit much, but once was enough. After that, it becomes "padding out" the book.
To be genuine and honest in this review, there is a massive slip in passion, realism and content. Recently re-read some of her earlier novels and could really FEEL the love and passion between the hero and heroine coupled (sic) with the exchange of love in bed sport (as opposed to just lust). Having said this before it's as though some people have complained or KLV has lost some of her youthful enthusiasm. The book becomes a tad pedantic and, dare I say it, a trifle boring in places. The unreal death of the whore wife is a prime example of ludicrousness! There were a thousand better/more dramatic ways for her to die!
There were also some very very obvious similarities and storylines to the KLV novel "The Dark Moon" of the De Russe Legacy series. But KLV has absolutely no qualms in reusing blatantly similar tropes in her new novels.
Otherwise am just happy to enjoy reading about this generation of DeWolfes' love life. But please KLV, do pick up the pace again and go back to the initial passions you wrote about and engaged with.

Ronan de Wolfe is married to an unfaithful and difficult woman, but he remains true to his vows.
He has children from that marriage, but are they really his?
Most of the time he lives to fight and protect his families holding on the border between England and Scotland.
However when attending a joust, tragedy ensues and he takes charge of a beautiful young widow.
But this causes more problems than he thought it would, and it may be that his life is going to become a lot more difficult before it’s got a chance of being better.
Excellent book from Kathryn, if you haven’t read, Wolfe Among Dragons, you may want to before this, though it’s not necessary.
Such beautiful writing in this , memorable moments with Ronan and his father Blayth/James.
And a very sweet love story too.
Great stuff, wonderful as always.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Having been forced to marry the daughter of an ally, who then ignores her marriage vows and her ladies treatment of those of lower status, together with their greedy demands.
Comparing his wife against his new charge, the difference in their attitudes towards him, makes Ronan jealous of his late friend and leads to a romantic tangle. When lies and untruths are claimed, both Ronan's and his wife 's fathers' agree that their alliance must stand.
Add plans for Ronan to be removed permanently which end badly for the plotters and a happy ending for the couple.
